Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Edit Suggestions — Page 38

OK ya'll I was seriously joking about indy's hair. It only looked bad in the film because of the glows around it. Which makes me wonder why GL likes halos around people in his newer films. I know InfoDroids edit will be killer. I will watch all of the fan edits. I quit on making one simply because I don't have the time or the skills to do the work.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Any word from Infodroid about when his edit will be finished? I'd like to see any edit at this point.

Also, I've read his ideas for shifting sequences around, telling the story in a non-linear fashion. Is anyone else making a cut that keeps the same order of events as the original? I think a Raiders flashback draws too heavily on another Indy film, when all films are their own adventures. And I think the trunk introduction is too good to waste.

Good news. I like ID. All the ID edits I have seen have been very top notch. Seeing as Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was so horrible I know ID will definetely use the crap filter for this one. I just wonder how much of the original film was left in the ID edit LOLOLOLOL

I haven't registered and the forums won't let anybody who doesn't have an account register. So anything going on at fan edit forums I am clueless to.

Quote:I worked a bit on the "burning teleporation" effects. It kinda works (but still looks very CGI).

Here are some pictures of this 2 seconds effect. The background is a random frozen picture that still needs to be changed with a spinning background, and the effect itself looks better in motion

Here is a third version of this effect (made following Andrew Kramer's tutorial at http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/

http://rapidshare.com/files/256627283/DISINTEGRATE_3.mpg

Like I said at FE.org I do this shots to learn after effects more than to add even MORE CGI to Indy 4. But ID is interested by the concept of "teleportation" for his edit. So I'm toying with after effect and 3DSmax to see what can be done.

The goal is to make all skeletons vanished kind of like Spalko later. And the alien is "teleported in" by a reverse version of this effect (starting by the head). So when Spalko vanished we can assume that they are "teleporting" her more than just killing her.

I don't know if I can make shots realistic enough to be used in this edit, but I'm trying!

But I think ID could end with 2 versions of his edit, a "purist" and a more "let's our imagination rolls" version. So don't be afraid, we don't want to add CGI just for the pleasure to add CGI! ;)

Bonus: a new look for the alien

Looks good, but... a bit too CGI-ish, I think. Good work, but maybe something could be done for the CG to not look so clean?

You are right. It's difficult. I made a version with a shaky camera movement, I think it looks better. I also added an orange tint to the smoke bursting from the eye.

Still CGI-ish. But I think that's all I can do on this shot  for now.

I think that's better, but you should take out the green lens flares, they scream CGI. Also, the background looks way too smooth and clean, as do the lights. Maybe it should be color-corrected to match the look of the originals? Otherwise, good job.

yeah, the lens flares maybe are a bit too eye catchy, I'd like to keep them, but bring the opacity down could be good indeed. It will be a quick shot anyway, so in the end of my shot where you can still see the lens flare spinning it will probably be cut.

About the background, it's a 3DSMAX scene so I can change it easily I'll see what I can do (for now I'm working on the disintegration/teleporation of other shots), but the original UFO walls of the movie are also quite clean and blurry and have changing colors from one shot to another (dark blue, bright orange and yellow...) so fr now I tried to make it quite simple indeed.

Thanks for the interest!

Hey guys, sorry I'm a little late bringing this up but I only just registered here yesterday (been lurking for a while).  If you want to register on faneditforum.com so you can keep up with ID's thread , you just have to follow this link:

http://www.faneditforum.com/register/register.html

and then send an email requesting your membership.  The auto-register feature was disabled a little while back to defeat bots.

ID has had some personal stuff going on that has rightfully delayed things, but he's still moving forward with the project.

Infodroid has personal problem (apprently now solved) that takes him away from the edit for a moment.

But the discussion continues at fanedit.org.

Lots of interesting "what if" discussions concerning the end of the movie.

I personaly try to make my new effects shots better in the case they would be used in the final cut.

So it's more or less a stand-by state until infodroid comes back.

Hi - it's been a while since I've posted.

I'm still interested in knowing if anyone doing any editing of this film would be interested in changing the title from "Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" (too long and clunky in my opinion) to just "Marauders of the Crystal Skull."

I've always felt that my idea for the title sounded more in keeping with the Indy movie titles, particularly when you consider it's likely the last Indy movie. It would be a nice way of book-ending the series with the first movie's title ("Raiders of the Lost Ark").

Wish you could edit in a real mcguffin.  I hate the idea of alien skulls and aliens and suucers being in an indiana jones film.  An artifact dealing with the occult or religious sinificance or a real archeological find would have been ever so much better.

I have no problem with Indy finding hidden cities or lost civilizations as long as they are not sci fi, and relate to mans history as real archeology does and not made up stuff like ghosts and flying saucers.

The villains should have been Nazis the Russians are not really evil enough, and the serial style of the originals should have been followed and no cgi.  Real stunts and location shooting etc.

The 50's bad b movie shit was absolute crap.  Not many good films came out of that period of 50's and 60's sci fi.  Except for maybe Forbidden Planet and The Day the Earth stood still.  And they are the wrong genre for indiana jones anyway.

Just like i thought black magic was stupid as i hated temple of doom except for the shanghai scene and the mine cart chase carried over from kasdens raiders script.

Yes the bad voodoo crap was used in 30's serials.  Still laughably bad.

To me Last Crusade is a mixed bag.  Good moments of character devlopment and humorous banter between indy and his dad, but lots of bad jokes and cringe worthy lines and humor.

I hated the racist charicature Sallah was portrayed as and that Marcus was a bumbling fool and a retard.

Raiders is the only perfect Indiana Jones film, even the lesser sequels of doom and crusade though are not pure phoned in quick cash grab pieces.

Don't get me wrong their are character moments i liked quite a bit in kingdom of the crystal skull, just the overal movie really did'nt work.   I liked That Indy had a son and though shia did a reasonably good job.  I liked Marions return and the wedding scene at the end.  I liked the kind of banter between indy and mutt which sort of was a redo of last crusade.  I liked that they used indys age as a part of the plot.  Did not like the unreal non existance of any real peril and the toned down violence.  Indy never uses his gun or whip really, there is zero tension and suspense in the fistfights either.

They had good actors in the movie as co-stars too, and all whose talents were mostly wasted just like the actors in the star wars prequels.

I think Lucas has done the bumbling retard enough, In Last Crusade Marcus Brody, in phantom menace jar jar binks and in crystal skull Ox.

For a minute I thought you were referring to George Lucas as being a bumbling retard as evidenced by his recent Star Wars and Indy films.  But I suppose that works too.

Er....at the risk of going against the overwhelming tide of everyone on this site getting their rocks off with the GL hate, but, you all DO realize that the guy neither directed, lensed, edited, scored, nor ran things at Presidio during post, right?  Not that KotCS is by any means perfect, nor am I a huge fan of how the prequels turned out, but for christ sake, this turning him into some ogre who abducted Indiana Jones is getting old, really, REALLY old now, can we please move on from South Park already?

AngryVideoGameNerd did a video for Spike TV "The Top 10 Dumbest Indiana Jones Moments".

Really it's almost a love letter to the movies.  After watching it I've decided to lighten up on Crystal Skull... a bit.

Definitely worth your time: http://www.spike.com/video/cinemassacre-top-10/3197473

It's fun to watch but I don't agree with most of them.

Number one being the screaming sequence of Willie in the jungle with Indy and short round playing cards? The guys playing cards without giving any shit about the noise she makes is what I call good fun.

Same thing about Connery and "the birds in the sky"scene. First we think: Henry Jones go crazy! Then we realise that HE saves the day just by having a great culture. It's smart fun.

The jump from the plane in TOD is over the top, indeed, but somehow I feel it is directed in a more believable way than Indy4 waterfalls.

No, to me THE dumbest scene in an Indy movie is when Henry Jones senior sits on a chair to think, because generaly when he sits and thinks...  it opens a escape door! It has to be the laziest idea in a Spielberg movie!

But I guess all this "dumbest moment" thing is very subjective!  ;)
