Well, I've just downloaded KM player, and I was able to watch your edits. They're perfect! The cemetary edit is great! The only thing is that I'd make the gunshot sound louder, as you've said before.

As for the fridge edit, I think what you've done is great. Very nice work! Keep it up!

So, Marion, we are all anxiously awaiting to hear/see what part of the film you're going to magically improve next! Also, have you visited fanedits.org? Fella named Spence is doing an edit as well, though SOME of his choices are debatable, he does nice work also.

Also, Laser, have you been blessed with any more freetime or are they still working you like a dog?

Calm down.  People will get to it when you get to it.  Posting everyday pushing people to finish their projects aint going to make it happen any faster.

I have a little more freetime right now, but Bedlam is right, you shouldn't always ask for status updates or plans... at least I am - to keep in Indy-slang - "making it up as I go". Furthermore, as soon as you post any "plans" on a forum, you always have people that get rubbed the wrong way, if you don't stick to these plans. So why make any in the first place? This is just a hobby to me, and sometimes I feel like doing something else instead. My job is about meeting deadlines all the time, and I don't need that in my freetime as well.

OperationBedlam and Laser, I'm not "rushing" anyone. As someone who also has a busy schedule, I was just seeing if Laser's job was still working him like crazy. Try not to jump to conclusions and try not to be so sensitive.

Besides, there are several very talented people working on edits for Indy 4 now, there's really no need to rush Laser.

Sorry if you misunderstood, but my intentions were for conversation only, not to crack the whip ...so to speak.

In that case, yeah, work is calming down towards the end of the year... didn't have that in years! ;)

Ok, Laser, I know you did the waterfall and it was really great ;) But, I wanted to see it with the music from the temple of doom: "Water, water, RUN!!!" (just for fun...) So, I did it again, errr...ok, I've tried to do it again.... but that music was too short so... it ended up with another music (from "tod" too) and only one waterfall. Yes, I failed in my attempt xDDDD

Anyway... Here is my "version" :D

PS: Don't worry about the languague, it's only a test.

I noticed that some people were discussing gunshot sound effects earlier.

I probably shouldn't do this or talk about this in an open forum, but I'm in a unique position here at school where I have access to the sound libraries of many of the major Hollywood studios (including Lucasfilm, though for some reason that only includes things like jungle sound effects).

So, until December 13th (when the semester ends and my access expires), if anyone has any requests for specific sound effects, I'll check out the library, see what I can find, and post them on Rapidshare.

Also, since I'm starting Editing 1 next semester, I *may* have access to the sound libraries next semester as well, but I am NOT SURE if that's the case.  If so, I'll let you guys know.

If anyone has requests for sound effects, please PM me - I'd like to keep this hush-hush so I don't get kicked out of film school and ruin my future career in the process.  But I'd love to help you guys out, too.

And remember, after December 13th, I won't be able to access this again, unless Editing 1 allows us to do so (in which case I'll be able to get effects again at the beginning of February).

It's something that I highly doubt anyone would ever notice.  All the sounds available are royalty- and coypright-free and are typically rather generic sounds.  The only problem would be if a faculty member sees these posts and somehow deduces who I am - once they're in your hands, even if they're used in one of your edits, no one would ever notice since, hell, you could've gotten them from many major Hollywood movies.

If anyone does need sound effects for their edits, it doesn't hurt to ask.  I know of several edits where a simple sound effect or two would have helped to smooth out a rough transition.

There are extensive amounts of gunshots.  For most, there are typically two versions - for example, the real sound of a .44 magnum, then the "Hollywood" sound (the two almost never sound alike).

I could also get jungle sounds, river and waterfall sounds, various types of car engines and footsteps, etc.

The biggest concern really isn't getting caught, it's that I won't have access to these forever.  So, the offer is still on the table.

I think that's in there, believe it or not - I recall it being mentioned by my prof. earlier in the semester.  I'll check.

Ah, I guess for good, clean soundeffects, videogames are a great source. I'll check if I can access the resource files from LEGO-Indy.

Heads up that Spence over at fanedit is just about finished with his edit. He's posting it shortly.

He's made some pretty sizable cuts and changes here that we may not all agree with, but it's great to see another take and could definitely provide ideas.

The work he's done so far has been excellent.

Can someone post details of Spence's edit?

I don't have a functioning account at FE, and don't want one.

Couple of pretty drastic cuts!!

 Here's what he had listed:

The edits thus far:
- The film begins with simple titles and the theme music. It's less traditional, but gets rid of the gopher and sets the tone bettter.
- Now the exchange goes "You recognize building, yes?" "Drop dead." then he calls for the other soldiers to hold Indy so he can punch him. Removing that first punch just speeds things up a bit.
- Some dialogue is removed from Indy and Spalko's meeting.
- We don't see the Alien. Spalko opens the box, looks inside wide eyed, and then Indy bursts into action.
- After Indy drops the gun that shoots the guy in the foot, it seems like he stands around and smiles about it before running while everyone decides not to shoot at him yet. Now, he just bolts.
- No gophers.
- No fake town. No fridge. No nuclear blast. It goes straight from Indy hiding in the desert to the FBI guys bringing him in.
- All references to the Nuke have been removed.
- Some little cuts during conversations to either speed them up or lose awkward deliveries.
- "Nice try kid but I think you just brought a knife..." DRAMATIC LONG PAUSE "...To a gun fight." Removed dramatic long pause.
- Cut the encounter with the little ninja guys.
- Cut Mutt's scorpion sequence.
- Cut Indy considering stealing the knife.
- Ah now my favorite. Marion's theme plays as she comes out of the tent. Indy doesn't shrug his shoulders like an idiot, just smiles at her. The banter ends with "Why, you lookin' for a date?!" That whole bit has been re-paced.
- It's now "For god's sake man, help!" the joke plays better and is a little bit shorter.
- I desperately tried to remove the snake, but I just couldn't make it work. Oh well.
- Cut Indy ripping his pants with the switchblade.
- There's a shot after Indy climbs on the roof of the truck where Marion just stares up and smiles like a goofball. I cut it, making the action start just a little bit faster.
- Ox doesn't randomly proclaim "Henry Jones...Jr.!" at the beginning of the chase sequence. People generally yell "Indy!" and "Jones!" a lot less.
- Lots of little cuts and trims in the jungle chase sequence. Marion doesn't coach Mutt on his fencing. No splits between the trucks. And absolutely NO MONKEYS. I would argue that the monkey sequence is one of the worst sequences ever put to film, and it's handled just as badly.
- Cut Spalko squishing an ant between her knees. Just felt sort of odd and out of place. Now we just stay with Indy's fist fight.
- The jeep in the tree thing is still there, but it's re-cut to happen a little faster, so it works a bit better.
- One waterfall. It's a re-cutting of all the waterfall sequences to make the best one.
- Mac is no longer a triple quadruple bastard agent. He's a double, and remains a good guy for the rest of the film. Now it appears that the Russians find the remains of the truck at the bottom of the waterfall and logically figure out where to go.
- The Mac dying/Spalko's brain melting stuff has been re-arranged and trimmed for better pacing.
- The Alien is still there, but he doesn't lean forward and sneer at the camera.
- There's some Temple of Doom music added to the water escape sequence.
- Indy doesn't say "Knowledge was their treasure" like 3 times.
- I removed Indy getting his job back at the college. At this point in the film, we don't really care. I just go straight to the wedding.
- I'm playing with some color correction, I'm not sure if I'm going to use it yet or not.

And that's kind of that. Now it's much better paced and the worst of the material is removed. I'm amazed at how much removing the Nuke sequence really helps everything. It removes that air of CGI aided silliness that the film starts with, so it feels more like Indiana Jones from the get-go. I think I can now watch this film without clawing my eyes out.

Now I know there are fifty bajillion people working on this, and I haven not read a single thing about what any of them are doing. I will probably post this and my other stuff I'm working on pretty soon. I want to make sure they're all perfect.

A couple good ideas, but another list of reasons why I never care for Spence's edits.

Weird, since it's a miniature.  Too bad, there's some interesting ideas there.  I especially like the idea of not seeing the alien-in-the-box - makes it almost plausible that Indy doesn't know "WHAT WAS IN THE BOX?!!" :P  Maybe he was just brought in to look at the artifacts, and didn't get a good look at the body.

But still with a lot of CG-"enhancements", as they call it. Looking at the raw plates in the documentaries I must say that I prefer the shots without the digital dust-puffs on the roofs... they look cheaply superimposed and somewhat unecessary. Ah, well.
