Hi everybody!

Wow...I never thought about this! But It's a great idea... and yes, It could be funny too.

Laser, You're doing a great work with the movie. It's incredible how it can change!

Ok, I'm not a pro but I think I can help you with this.

Here is my little contribution: the fridge scene. I cut the fridge bouncing and extended the end a bit. I hope you all like it!!! (It's compressed so the quality is low)

PS: Sorry for my terrible English ;)

Hmm.  Still too many bounces.

I think I'd just go from flying to the last cut where Indy actually gets out.

I agree. Not a bad edit, though.

Also, I think the fridge door should stay closed a little longer, though, to give a bit of suspense before Indy pops out.

Nice job. Yes there should be more of a delay before the door opens, but this is a great start.

Also, if you've seen the list on the first page of the topic, what are your thoughts? And are you technically capable of doing these?

Great to see another person doing work on this. If there is anything we can do to help let us know. i've been trying to get a few of you smart fellas together on one ultimate edit so the work load could be split, but this is proving tough. lol.

I think I can do some of them but there are some things that aren't possible at all.

Ok, here it is the second version of the fridge. I won't cut more of the bouncing because it's necessary a bit of context, the fridge landed after all, didn't it? If I cut it, the editing wouldn't be right.

Well, I expanded the opening one second more, and... I also put a funny ending video... I couldn't resist to add it... xDDDDDD

Well... I dunno, but there are some things so... I mean, It's ok if you want to change scenes that aren't right (e.g. the pocketknife joke or the bouncing fridge etc...) but I don't see the point in change... the whole movie! xD

Btw... here it's the end of the cemetary scene ;)

Nah, I say if the change makes the film better AND it is a seamless edit, it should be done. There is a good movie in here and we aren't talking about an overhaul exactly, just a few nips and tucks. Might you be able to post your plans for the edit? Either the items from the list you plan on or don't plan on doing?

Btw, just watchec your cemetery edit - amazing work. MAYBE the spark could be a bit softer if that makes sense, but great great work. Keep it UP!

Your cemetary-edit is REALLY great... I was thinking about something like that as well, although I thought about having the gunshot happen off-screen (and without a spark-impact like yours, so that it was just Indy firing a warning shot in the air) and then Indy raising his still smoking gun into frame, and cocking it again.

Author

Mmm... well, I was thinking that indy's warning shot was just a deflected one so I did that.

It could be great like you said but I'm not sure if deleting indy's hand (In order to shot off-screen) would be all right. Still, I'll try it ;)

Yes, we can put our hats together into this! xDDD

Marion, your edit of the ending to the cemetery scene is flawless - really excellent! That's always how I imagined an edit of that small scene would be like. And it really grit-ifies Indy as well! Amazing!

Yeah, Laser's idea is also a good one - about having the shot off screen, and then seeing Indy raise the smoking gun in front of the camera. I'd be for that as well, but really, after seeing Marion's take of this, I think it's perfect as is. The nozzle-flash and bullet-impact-flash are spot on, and really well timed with the reaction of the crypt guard. Plus, with the bullet-impact-flash, it's still clear that Indy meant to miss, and that the shot was intended as a warning.

With the fridge scene, an idea that I had was cutting straight to the front of the Russians' car being englufed by the shock-wave straight after we see the shock-wave race after the car (which is the opening of Marion's latest mp4 file of the scene). That way, all scenes of the flying fridges are cut, and we can then go straight to the fridge landing/coming to rest (still think the bounces might be able to be trimmed a bit) and Indy rolling out. I agree with adding a delay to Indy coming out of the fridge, but maybe not as long a delay as the one that featured in Marion's latest mp4 file.

But top stuff!

Can someone please post Marion's edits onto YouTube? I don't have the plugins necessary to watch his videos. I'd love to see the cemetary edit!

Oh, I'm sorry. ;)

I downloaded the codec, and extracted it into a folder, but now what? The video still wont play normally and it still says I need to download the codec. What was I supposed to do after I downloaded it?

I'm totally crap at IT stuff of any kind, but could you not download VLC Media Player (VideoLAN) and play it on that? That player seems to be able to play literally everything under the sun! I never have a problem playing anything on it, no matter how many funny letters and numbers are in the file name!

Install it?

Or, as someone already suggested, try a player that includes its own codecs, like vlc or mplayer.

EXCELLENT cemetery scene.

A few stupid nitpicks... the gun seems to shoot a little early (while he's still raising it, but I think you did that to give the impression of a recoil(?)), the flash should probably be at least 1 or 2 frames after the muzzle flash (for dramatic effect, even though in reality it probably wouldn't be that late.)

Finally: better gunshot sound. This one might be a bit weak considering the POV looks like it's being fired right beside your ear.

But on the whole: beautifully seamless, and a huge improvement. Indy has a gun and isn't afraid to use it on South American monkey ninjas or whatever those things were.

Edit:

As for the fridge scene, like I was saying before, if you cut all of the bounces, it lands and seems to roll/slide to a stop. It's more convincing that the occupant might live.

I did a quick re-edit of your clip (removing the audio since it was already out of sync): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KBQ0WMJG

Mind you if I wasn't just tossing this together, I'd make one other change: The shot of the fridge as it falls from the sky and just touches the ground should be flipped left/right. It would provide continuity with the final shot which makes the fridge seem to come from the other direction (and the fridge would be standing on the same corner between those two shots).

Errr.... I don't think so... I mean, there isn't really a moment for Indy to shoot (It is some kind of...Han Shot first! xDDDD), I put the flash in there because a second later the warrior stay still, soooo.... there wasn't time at all. And the muzzle sound... At first, I put it later but, believe me, it doesn't sounds right. The fire sound... ok, I'll turn the volumen up a bit.

The fridge... Sorry, I don't know why but I can't download your video (Did you say that mine wasn't audio-syncr? :S ), it always come back to the first page of megaupload ¿? I'll try later. But If everyone want me to change that scene, please, tell me every change one by one, because everyone want a different change, so we must agree with it.

See you!

PS: Golden Idol, I'm surprise the codec doesn't install... Ok, if you are using windows, the best player is "KMPlayer", but if you use mac,  try "Perian utility" (I think this is the best program ever invented xD) or if it comes to it... "Vlc"

I figured it was something like that.  It seems a bit strange when you look at it closely, but if you aren't looking at it frame by frame, it's fine.  Really, I do love it (and it makes more sense than this scary guy running from a gun being cocked.)

I don't think the sound needs to be later, that's fine.  Just louder.

I could see your video! Hmm... So, before I'll edit it again... I prefer to do a list:

1- Cut more the bouncing fridge

2-Cut a bit the expanded wait ¿?

3-Add more seconds, or the same... or what? xDDD

I like the delay before the fridge door opens. It establishes that Indy is probably a bit banged up in there and provides at least a little suspense. I say leave it and I think the majority of folks around here would agree.

So, Marion, where to next in your excellent edit?

The extended pause wasn't too much.  You just got banged around pretty hard, there was also little indication that the speed had been played with.

I say the expanded wait was fine.
