Kingdom of Heaven

Kingdom of Heaven, official acronym being KOH, comes out this Friday. Anyone here going to bother seeing it?

Let's see, Orlando Bloom has the LOTR films, a pirate film and a Greek film on his resume, all he needs now is a biblical epic, a cowboy pic, and a sci-fi CGI fest.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

KOH has already opened over here under the name of "Crusades". When a movie opens here BEFORE opening in the US, it can only mean one thing: CRAP. (with a few exceptions)
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Amen. And my wife seconds that motion. She can't stand Orlando Bloom.

She can't understand the fascination with him. She doesn't think he's good looking at all and thinks he's a terrible actor.

I think Hollywood needs to take a seriously long break from period pieces. We've been flooded with them.

I guess that's the Lord of the Rings syndrome.

Not LOTR so much. I'm thinking in terms of the rash of historical epics of late... Gladiator really started it. The Patriot, Cold Mountain, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, King Arthur, and sooooo many more. I'm just having a brain fart right now.

I'm somewhat burned out on the historical epic too. But I don't think it's more of an issue of quantity as it is quality. If they were all at a Gladiator level, I would enjoy all of them regardless of the number. But the latest batch of crapola like Troy, Alexander, King Arthur has sort of watered down the genre as a whole for me. Sorta like the comic book genre of movies. I would enjoy them more if they were at the X-men and Spider-Man levels of quality, but the Catwomans and Daredevils sort of give the whole genre a black mark, IMO.

Sooo true what you said about the superhero movies.

It becomes a matter of everyone wanting to cash in on the next big thing. With the success of Gladiator and The Patriot, everyone wanted in. So much so that the quality was foregone in favor of getting a movie out quickly. Sad, but true.

sadly one of the biggest modos in hollywood is if it works go with it. why risk money on a new idea when you can make alot of movie one something that is sure fire.

Thats what they thought with King Arthur, sure fire it was not.

Ironically King Arthur probably made less money than worse movies...

Roger Ebert said it was better than Gladiator. One of my local newspapers gave Kingdom 4 stars out of 4, the local newspaper gave it 2.5 stars out of 4. The critics are in disagreement over this film.

I don't think thats it better than Gladiator, but I do think Kingdom was a good movie. Yahoo has averages of both the rating of critics and regular folks. Both groups gave Kingdom a "B". I agree with this.
