"Lucasfilm Confirms SW TV Series

Yesterday TFN was up in Los Angeles for the DVD press day sponsored by Lucasfilm and Fox Home Entertainment. We are pleased to announce that Lucasfilm confirmed officially a Star Wars television show coming in the future. They didn't comment on setting (post-Episode III or post-Episode VI we would guess)or release schedule (we expect Fall 2006). Either way - this is coming for sure!" - FROM TFN.

And

Hamill talks about Ep 7, 8 & 9 - Listen for yourself.

Interesting info. Is George once again contradicting himself?

He never said no Star Wars TV show. Just no new movies. This thread also belongs in General Star Wars. I personally can't wait for this series. If done right I see alot of potencial in this series.

I'd love to see a SW TV show as well, but one thing worries me.
Can it be done properly?

1. What is the storyline going to be? The most popular thought I've seen, is that we get a TV show about Vader hunting down the Jedi. That could get boring however. (Hey, look, he just killed another Jedi.)

2. Will SW actors be used? Obviously, if its about Vader, you don't need Hayden, because you can have anyone in the suit. But then you need James Earl Jones. Anything else will not be right.

3. What will be done with EU? Will Lucas throw it completely out the window, or will he embrace part or all of it? The more scripts he writes, the more conflicts can arise.

Agreed no Vader without James Earl Jones. His intense scary voice made Vader the ultimate badass he is. Some suggest it will take place after Return of the Jedi. This would require a merging of the entire original cast which I don't think is possible. My favorite idea would be a series taking place inbetween Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Showing the early days of the Rebelion and Vader hunting down the early Jedi.

Wouldn't that render the concept of "episodes 7,8,9" a bit null and void if it came between the PT and the OT? Doesn't quite work. They'd have to be Episodes 3.25, 3.5, and 3.75. If he's going to do 7,8,9 he's gonna have to launch it really far in the future.

Good point Bossk, I hadn't thought about that.

I have an idea.
He could do the period of time 4000 years before Yavin, but he'd interfere with the 'Tales of the Jedi' comics (which, knowing Lucas, he wouldn't have a problem with).
In addition, there is a huge chunk of SW history during those 4000 years that no one (to my knowledge) has gone into great depth with.

I believe it was done in Knights of the Old Republic

I was listening to Mark Hamill right now, and it just hit me: he should do a stand up one-man show bashing Star Wars at the same time he talks about his bizarre experiences with George "childhoodraper" Lucas, I mean, he sounds so much like Henry Rollins in Think Tank. It would be called "Mark Hamill's Dark Side of the force" or something...
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

KotOR takes place within...40 years of the Exar Kun-started Great Sith War, and takes place during a time period of less than a year.
I've played through the game 6-7 times.

That leaves...3960 more years for him to cover, not to mention the time before then.
Hey, maybe we'll get to meet Xim the Despot.

What confuses me about the Knights of the Old Republic series is if its that far in the past wouldn't they be alot less advanced.

they could also do something from the jedi knight series with maybe kyle katarn as the main character....

oops

I'd be guessing they could just pick any part of the SW Universe to stick it in. Knowing GL's mode of operation by now, it would be somewhere that features maybe one or two characters that have appeared in minor roles in the movies so far, or perhaps the EU. Certainly nothing that would actually advance the story or myth. It would probably be made in NZ or Australia to cut costs, featuring mostly local actors, with a couple of imports in the central roles ( think 'Xena' ). I could see CG being used untill it makes your eyes bleed.
Something like.....a series set in the Cantina , featuring a motley crew that meet each week at the bar, with the occassional guest star passing through for the regulars to bounce insults off.

They could call it " Jeers".

This same thing has been discussed on the Bioware message boards.

Hyperdrive was discovered 20,000 years before the OT, so its safe to assume that SW people were already at a fairly high technological level.
At some point, a society is going to hit a plateau, technologically speaking. Very little is done to make technology better than it already is. Sure it may get smaller or become stronger, but its still the same technology.
I think SWU hit that point sometime probably before the KotOR time period.

Id always assumed some kind of dark age slowed down advancement sometime after Knights of the Old Republic

Would that be the same Lucas who said he was finished tinkering with the OT when asked if we could expect more "special editions"? Or the Same Lucas who swore blind that Ewan McGregor would never be Obi-Wan? The same Lucas who said he originally envisioned 9 films? and then changed his story to 6, claiming 9 was a concoction of the media? The Same Lucas who claimed He made Han shoot first because he didn't want Han to come off as a cold blooded killer? The Same Lucas who then changed his story to Greedo was always supposed to shoot first, but an editing flub made it come out the way it did?

Yeah, I trust that Lucas, anythng he says is worthy of being taken seriously.

Sounds like Lucas has been giving lessons to a certain democratic presidential candidate...or vice-versa.

But let's not have this thread become a political debate.

Maybe Lucas will finally let Star Wars into some capable, creative(as in "not devoted solely to CGI eye-candy") hands and let them maybe film some of the best EU novels(Maybe the Thrawn series).

But thats just wishful thinking, he'll probably be making crappy spinoffs until the '20s.

wow!
strange thing is i've heard of this... but it was a long time ago...
my friend went on vacation to Italy where he ended up bumping into someone who worked for Lucasfilm...

being the fan my friend was he started up a conversation with him instantly and was told to look for a Star Wars TV mini series sometime in the future..
he didnt know much about it but speculated it would take place after Return of the Jedi given some of the memos going around Lucasfilm...

this could be BS or just a simple coincidence...
either way im going to talk to my friend

Have you ever heard him do Yoda's voice? He is amazingly entertaining. Watch the Empire of Dreams doc, he does a quick bit of it.
