Kill Bill Vol.2 reaction thread (beware of eventual spoilers)

Just came back from the theatre watching Kill Bill Vol.2 and I have to say although I think it's a great movie, it doesn't mix as well with the first part as I expected it to. The second film had a much stronger emphasis on dialogues and emotional situations than the first, which will kinda unbalance the film when watched as a whole, imo.

I really loved David Carradine and how the showdown was setup and how the plot intertwines with Vol.1 through Pei Mei as a Mentor. Sam Jackson as the chapel's organ player (although it was just a short cameo) was incredibly cool and I liked it a lot. One of the scenes that made the deepest impression on me, was the 'Texas Funeral'. Since the theatre was almost empty (it was 2pm on a sunday in an original language screening w/o subtitles in germany), it was a truly disturbing experience and really delivered the whole scale of the 'being buried alive' feeling.

To sum it all up: I loved the characters, the action and the plot - BUT some of the dialogue could have been streamlined a bit to quicken up the pace of the movie a bit - at least that was my perception. My hope is for a re-cut by Tarantino for the 2 DVD set - I think it would make a great pair of movies even better.

i just saw it today and my thoughts are the same. All in all I liked it but some scenes just felt too long. And also I had the impression that vol1 was only there to show some kickass action and vol2 to advance the story. If QT had cut some scenes and made others shorter it could have become only one movie. But it was really cool, I liked it.

But there's something I don't understand: at the beginning she gets shot by Budd who later buries her. Shouldn't she have died then? I know that the fact she survived the shot in the head is kinda unrealistic to, but oulling the same stunt twice? Or did I get it wrong?

You missed the fact that he shot her with shotgun shells loaded with rock salt, not shot. As Budd told her, it'd sting, but it won't kill her. Personally, I loved this second half. It doesn't have the same visceral impact of Vol. I, but it wasn't meant to; this is supposed to be the contemplative half of the film, wher we figure out why The Bride really left DiVAS, and the end really brings it all together, especially if you have any understanding of psychology.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

oh thanks. guess i missed that part, makes more sense now.
yeah I agree. I remember after seeing Vol1 I thought that QT was one sick little man and I thought Vol2 would be the same, but it wasn't and it's good that way. in Vol 1 there was enough blood for at least a dozen movies. and also, in Vol2 the bride actually kills only one person, as opposed to the 'roaring rampage of revenge' depicted in part one.
must be cool to see 1 & 2 back to back, will have to try that once.

yeah that one was pretty good. well, I actually looked away at that moment. and you're right it's much grosser than all that carnage in Vol1.

I appreciated the aftermath more; mirrors DH's performance in Blade Runner.

Anyone catch the outtake after the end credits?

Nope. I tried to sit through them but my patience didn't last as long as the credits roll did.
