***Kaal's "SW Video Games Cutscenes" Project***

Ok, I'm starting my project to put the Star Wars videogames cut-scenes onto DVDs !
For info, I'm working on a Mac, with the simple but powerfull tools "iMovie HD", "iDVD 5" and "Quicktime Pro". I think I'll make 1 DVD per game, at least for the games which have a good list of cut-scenes.
The DVDs will be NTSC or PAL, depending of the source videos.

Here are the current projects:
- Knights of the Old Republic (from the Mac version)
- Jedi Knight - Dark Forces II (from the PC version)
- Rebel Assault II (from the Mac version)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Just now I'm working on "KJ001 - Jedi Knight Cut-scenes"

I'm using "Smacker Player" for Mac OSX to play the .smk videos, and "SnapzPro" for the capture (there's no smk converter on Mac), and the quality seems pretty good for now

I've played the game years ago on a friend's PC, but I don't have any PC now, and some help would be welcome! Here is what I need:

-> The names of the cut-scenes: if I remember well, in the game there's a "videos" menu with the list of all cut-scenes of the game. So, if anyone could give me the complete list with all the names, it could be cool (btw, if someone could send me a screenshot of that menu...)

-> As bonus material, I'll put some galleries: "Concept Art" and "In-game Screenshots", so I'll need some artwork (all that isn't in the official website), and screenshots from all the levels (between 5 and 10 per level would be great).

-> I've also found a trailer, but it's pretty small (320x150), so if you have a higher version, I'm interested !

-> I'm also interested in Menus screenshots and... anything you might think good to see on that DVD!

Thanks in advance!

I already have these cutscenes on dvd, taken straight from the game disc, including the 'dark side' ending. I could send you a copy in exchange for you're finished disc when you're done

FINISHED:
The Sith Revealed - A Scrapbook
Episode III The Video Game - The Movie
24: The Missing Day
Star Wars - The Interactive Board Game DVD
Battlefront - Journal of the 501st

Could you put here a screenshot of your videos? I'll see what it looks like, compare to my "convertion".
Anyway, thanks for the help

I would suggest putting in some explanation of what happened in the game up to the cutscene point. I would think that cutscenes by themselves might be hard to understand without it.

For bonus material, you most certianly need to include the parodies of Star Wars as written by Woody Allen, Seinfield, Tarantino, etc that were included on the wonderful parody game Star Warped...

Those are classic, hell, that game is classic...Pizza-Flippin Greedo anyone?

Yeah, I'm working on it, but I think I'll have to find a very detailed walkthrough, cause I can't play the game, and I don't remember exactly what happen in each level.
But, in another way, I'm making these DVDs to preserve the "cut-scenes" themselves. At this time, I'm not sure to want to make a "movie" with that... I don't know...
Wait and see

I'd prefer to put bonuses that have more relation with the project. Thoses parodies are cool, but not enough "Jedi Knight-related", I think...

This project sounds cool, I would help you but I won't be going home to my computer with my saved games until december.
You could include the original darkforces cut scenes on the disc as an extra, gotta love the crappy computer animation

maybe add this trailer, but it is low resolution: trailer

Well, I think I'll make 1 DVD just for Dark Forces. It will not be long, for sure...

The trailer is the same I have, but thanks for the help!

BTW, I've never played the "Mysteries of the Sith" add-on: is there any cut-scenes in it?

sounds good, but isn't there going to be a lot of empty space on the dvds then?
There are cut scenes, but they aren't real movies, they just use the in game graphics and are pretty crappy.

Perhaps you could PM laserschwert about his Star Wars soundtracks. It would be cool to include those as a DVD-ROM extra on each games' respective DVD. Maybe.

To be honest, it is already planed!
I have the soundtrack (the laserschwert version) and I've though about putting it (as well as the other non-john williams soundtracks, for the other game DVDs) as a DVD-ROM content.

So, I've converted all the Jedi Knight videos and now, I really need the cut-scenes titles, as well as game menus screenshots.
Anyone can help, please?

Cool. Except I thought there was no Jedi Knight soundtrack by Laserschwert. :?

Anyway, I've found my copy of Jedi Knight and will try to get a list for the cutscenes...

You're right, there's no Jedi Knight soundtrack. I was talking about the Dark Forces soundtrack, but forgot to mention it...

Host your picture at imageshack.us (or any similar site). After that, you'll have the direct link to your picture. So, you can choose to just give the link here, or post the picture. For that, you just have to put your direct link as follow:

Well I've got all of Laserschwert's SW soundtracks to date (waiting on a higher quality version of KOTORII), and when I say I've got them I mean I have the MP3s, covers, even the html pages that were originally on the LucasSoundtracks site.

Anyway, I tried really hard to get screenshots from Jedi Knight but to no avail - sorry . They just kept coming up in bizarre colours or with glitches or whatever. I did get a list of the cutscenes for you though:

#***************************
# Names of Cutscenes
#***************************
"01-02A" 0 "0 - A Jedi's Destiny"
"03-04A" 0 "1 - 8t88's Double Cross"
"06A" 0 "2 - 8t88's Escape"
"08-10A" 0 "3 - The Vision"
"12A" 0 "4 - A Father's Message"
"16A" 0 "5 - Barons Hed"
"18-19A" 0 "7 - Yun's Attack"
"21A" 0 "8 - A Second Chance"
"23A" 0 "9 - 8t88's Payment"
"25A" 0 "10 - Cargo Ship Launch"
"27A" 0 "11 - Brothers of the Sith"
"33-34A" 0 "13 - Passage to the Lost Planet"
"36A" 0 "14 - Maw's Revenge"
"38A" 0 "15 - The Path of the Jedi"
"39A" 0 "15 - The Lightside"
"41-42A" 0 "16 - Sariss' Attack"
"41DA" 0 "15 - Falling Ship Failure"
"41DSA" 0 "16 - Dark Jedi Escape"
"44A" 0 "18 - The Trespass"
"46A" 0 "19 - Power of the Valley"
"48A" 0 "20 - Boc's Surprise"
"50A" 0 "21 - Jerec: The Force Within"
"52-53A" 0 "22 - A Jedi's Last Challenge"
"54A" 0 "15 - The Darkside"
"57A" 0 "22 - Dark Emperor"

Sorry I couldn't actually cap the screens ingame. BTW, this list was found on the net and seems to include 'alternate' cutscenes... dark side ones i guess. Haven't played the game much, so I don't know.

Me too! I've downloaded all the Star Wars (and the other LucasArts) soundtracks on Laserschewert's webiste, before LucasArts ask him to remove all the Star Wars and Indy content. BTW, I'm the guy who gave Laserschwert the KOTOR II mp3s, and asked him a cover for that

So, concerning the cut-scenes titles, thank you very much!

Ok. All the videos have been assembled, with titles at the begining of each cut-scene. The DVD menus are under construction!

For the menus, I'll need some material. I've found some (very)low-res paintings from the "Dark Forces" graphic stories, which could be cool to have for backgrounds. Anyone has hi-res (or "mid-res", it will be enough) versions of those paintings?

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/3563/jkcollage6xj.jpg

I'll also need screenshots, from the menus, the levels (between 5 and 10 per level). I'm not sure, but I think there were briefing screens at the begining of each level, no? If yes, some screens would be welcome!

Hello!

I'm a first-time poster, but I've lurked for awhile.

This project sounds really cool. I did something similar with the PlayStation 2 game "Bounty Hunter" awhile back. I ripped all the cut scenes from the disc. After a lot of trial and error, I ended up with about 40 minutes of footage in 16X9 anamorphic widescreen. I must say it looks really good! Here's some screen shots:

http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/5124/bh15kq.jpg

http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/256/bh26ea.jpg

http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/7788/bh45gk.jpg

http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/2290/bh55le.jpg

http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/1166/bh69ug.jpg

Mu ultimate goal was to make a nice DVD with all the cut scenes, some examples of the gameplay between the cut scenes, the game trailers, and all the material found at the official web site as "bonus" DVD-ROM material. However I never ended up with any interactive menus that I was really happy with, and I couldn't capture the gameplay and game trailers and mix them with the cut scenes I had converted....possibly because the gameplay was 4X3 and the cut scenes were 16X9?

Probably someone with a little more DVD authoring knowledge than myself could really make something cool out of this. Or if Kaal-Jhyy decides to make the Video Game Cutscenes project an ongoing project, this material could be useful. Just thought I would share.

Wow! I'm very interested!
I was planning to make a rip from Bounty Hunter, but I'm french, and I only have the french dubbed cutscenes...
So, it would be a pleasure to make a DVD for Bounty Hunter! The cutscenes in this game are beautiful (made by ILM and Skywaker Sound!), and Jango has Temuera Morrison's voice!

If you want, PM me to see how you could send them to me

BTW, I have some questions:
- What was your ripping method?
- The videos are PAL or NTSC?
- It seems that your screenshots have a bad ratio. I hope it's not the case for the videos, no?

Anyway, thanks for your (very first) post, and welcome to the "Original Trilogy" forums!

Hey Guys....

Thanks for the comments. I'll be PM'ing Kaal-Jhyy, and we'll see if we can find a way to make this Bounty Hunter DVD a bit more presentable, and make it available to everyone. And to answer Kaal's questions:

-- It's been awhile since I did this, so I'm not 100% sure of the software I used. I copied the original ".sfd" video files from the PS2 disc, and I believe I used a utility called Xbox SFD To MPEG to convert the files to DVD compliant video.

-- The videos are NTSC.

-- The aspect ratio of the above screenshots is definitely bad. I realized this after I posted them. Not sure what I did wrong. The videos are definitely in the proper 16X9 anamorphic widescreen ratio though. I have a 16X9 high definition 53" TV, and I have to say the video quality on these cut scenes is truly awesome.

I really love the Bounty Hunter game, I think the cut scenes are among the best created for a Star Wars game. If we can get a DVD put together with some of the "bonus features" I have in mind, I think it could be really nice.
