Just saw TV ad for DVDs for the first time....

I just saw the TV ad for the DVD singles. They have a little girl with her hair done like Leia's, and a couple of middle-aged parents talking about how they grew up seeing the films, etc.....they mention how it's the first time the movies have been released individually on DVD, but I don't think they mention the fact that the OOT is included.

Um, that sounds weird. But it'd be cute to see the little Leia girl. I wonder if YouTube has gotten wind of this yet?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

LOL....I haven't seen ANY ads. LFL paid as much for those as they did for the transfers.

trailer

this is all i found...
it angers me so much that they only mention once that they come with the original theatrical versions... which i thought was supposed to be the original selling point of the set.

plus they mention it like half way through the trailer... not to mention all they show is special edition footage...

i hope lucasfilm burns to the ground...

It was embarrasing and painful. The sabotage of the OUT is nearly complete.

I just saw the Lego video game commercial

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

I just saw that commercial too, during Friends on TBS. They were talking about "now my kids can experiance Star Wars how I saw it" or something like that, without mentioning it had the OOT on it. I also saw the LEGO Star Wars TV spot. I'm anticipating that one more than these DVD's, by far. The original was twenty times better than the real PT (in acting too) and I'm sure the second will be even better.

Just watched the trailer...

It's so funny how they highlight this release with the OOT, then throw in all the Special Edition spots in the preview.

"And as a special added bonus..."

Fuckers.

The 'trailer' on YouTube is not the same as the commercial they're showing on TV.

Where have you been? The Star Wars Lego game has been out for years....the demo that is included with the GOUT is the second
installment of the Star Wars Lego game.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

I saw a poster for them at a local Target (I live in Brisbane, Australia). It says that the release date here will be September 13 (which I guess makes sense, given that we live a day into the future) and it says that they are double-discs with the Original Theatrical Versions.

I saw the tail-end of a commercial on the SciFi channel - it's different from the one I saw on the Fox channel.

I'm starting to think Lucas resents ALL of the Original Trilogy - the OUT, the SE, the SE 2.0, the whole kit and kaboodle.

I mean, I see this TV ad with one dorky family talking about enjoying the Trilogy and it just comes off so badly. I cannot imagine being a casual fan, seeing that ad and thinking, "Wow! I gotta get me some of that!" And as a more impassioned observer, I'm so totally unimpressed by that ad. It doesn't move me at all. These days, hyping the product has been about all Lucasfilm has gotten right.

My "Lucas resentment theory" isn't that farfetched - I'm sure we have all heard tales of artists being disenchanted with their early work. Perhaps Luca$ sees anything connected to the Original Trilogy as so studio-tainted that no amount of Special Editioning can fix, whereas the Prequel Trilogy was done by his hands only and is therefore superior - from a certain point of view.

I'm just glad that Lucas can't tamper with the love I still have for those classics

IN that Youtube video...during the Episode 4 part...I am almost positive the announcer says DARK Vader.

Also..was anybody else pissed that they pretty much ruined Empire with that clip? The whole ending...gone to waste. They could have just as easily used the "Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father" line and had the same effect, perhaps better.

A SPECIAL ADDED BONUS...give me a break.

Yeah, I saw the TV commercials. I thought they were cute. The little kids are saying "how much they want a pet wookie" and stuff like that. And the announcer guy was like "See Star Wars including it's original theatrical version!" with the scene with the REAL Anakin Skywalker standing next to Yoda and Kenobi. All I can say is, "yes."

I listened to it a few times and I think he DOES say "DARK Vader"! LOL But I'm sure this is a "creative decision" that was totally intended.

I still think we need to read (and listen) between the lines here regarding the OUT and future releases, though, and I am convinced we will see it again soon. Even that trailer is careful to point out more than a few times, "For a Limited time only, own EACH movie of the Star Wars Trilogy INDIVIDUALLY on DVD." I feel that is how Lucas will get around the whole OUT being limtied thing in the future, because they will be bundled together, or without the SE, or with the PT...

Also, "As a special added VALUE bonus, the original theatrical version from 1977, 1980 and 1983." Value usually equals "just good enough for the money." Nothing will stop a better version for more money, and again, yet another way for Lucas to get around the whole "You will never see the OUT like this again" thing.

He could just as easily pull a Disney a few years from now too. "Back from the LucasFilm vault, the original version of Star Wars in an all new remastered transfer!"

I hate reading racism into things, but Wookiees were portrayed as sapient creatures deserving the same dignity as any other human, Mon Cal, or Rodian. (Well, maybe a little more than the Rodians.) Wanting a "pet Wookiee" is like wanting a "pet negro." I can't help but feel that this commercial continues the Star Wars tradition of dividing civilizations into races deserving more or less dignity.

Incidentally, as I'm typing this I'm seeing the commercial for the fist time. Ugly, ugly SE.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

But has it ever bothered anybody else that Luke scratched Chewbacca's neck in ESB? That's always kinda ruffled my feathers the wrong way.

No, I have to say it never bothered me that Luke scratched Chewie's neck. I always thought it was cute, especially since Chewie was based on GL's dog, Indiana, who used to ride around with GL in the passenger seat of his car.

Yeah, but it gives off the impression that Chewie's a pet, rather than a technologically advanced 200 year old co-pilot who happens to be covered in fur and speaks with what we hear as growls.

I mean, do you want a pet Yoda, too? ^_~
