When you watch the additional scene in the Rebel Base where Luke is talking to Biggs, something which appears to be a CGI added person walks past them. Notice R2 being lift up on the right side of the screen. Before the CGI added person passes him, he is far away in the background. Once the person passed him, he suddenly is much nearer to the front! It seems this scene was edited to hide something.

Good catch--its a digital foreground cross to hide a time-cut. Original Rebel pilot remembers Luke's father as a great pilot that he knew as a boy. Thats why Rebel leader's attitude changes rather abruptly. The original scene scene had Biggs say "Sir, Luke is the best bush pilot in the outer rim territories," to which Rebel Leader says "Skywalker? I knew your father when I was a boy. He was a great pilot. If your half the man he was you'll do okay." The middle part was cut out and hidden with a digital foreground cross of an extra.

i find this change to the scene extremely silly especially now that lucas has the 1-6 order of watching the films we know who lukes father is even before episode IV. lame.

ruins the 2 best oot films star wars and the empire strikes back no surprise since lucas says they don't exist anymore despite the contrary evidence on a crappy gout bonus discs.

even funnier when this scene was shot the skywalker jedi who was killed by darth vader was the real story and vader was not the daddy, LOL. despite the lying lucas has done through the years and leia was not the sister.

red leaders scene is still intact in the storybook, the original bubble gum cards, the novelization, and marvel comic book. hell Lucas is a big time wrecker of continuity he puts the oot trilogy novels as cannon and rotj still has obi wan as owen lars brother. he never bothered to have the scenes in the books rewritten or the books entirely rewritten except as junior novelizations and those suck the big one the ones released in 2004.

i still hold the 00t cannon and the novels in high regard and claim the prequels as we have them now as non cannon since the original outlines were cannon and fit the oot trilogy and lucas saw fit to change them.

the red leader scene as well as a few others were shown at a convention in 1996 i think by sansweet and even then lucas had the scene altered by removing the dialogue red leader speaks. their was a cam copy up online somewhere and now happens to be taken down. the tatooine scenes have also been truncated as ocpmovie has mentioned in deleted magic based on david west reynolds review of the lost black and white rough cut and color dailies.

i find star wars so much better if i deny the prequels existence and deny all eu novels starting with sacrifice.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

Yeah, I heard about that story, but it really baffles me how amateurish this scene has been put together. It's really embarassing once you notice it.

There is another goof. During this scene switch, a person in the background is attempting to exit the frame to the left side. Once the CGI foreground person has passed him, he is suddenly gone.

Every person defending the theory that Vader has always been Luke's father & the main focus of the saga should ask him/herself: why have the deleted scenes of "Star Wars" never been released?

Yeah, I don't understand why they cut that line out about him knowing Luke's father. It wouldn't have affected anything plot-wise to have left the line in. I mean, it's already established that Luke's father was a great pilot when Obi-Wan tells him this earlier in the film!

For some reason, I don't remember the line being cut and replaced by the CGI person when the SE played in theaters. Was it cut out afterwards for the home video release?

I don't think so. That is, I never remember it being any different than the version we have now.

But I agree. I always wondered why it was felt to be so imperative that that bit of dialogue was cut out. I guess Lucas just didn't plan on shooting a Jake Lloyd befriends a young Red Leader and flies him across the galaxy scene.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Yeah, and the line "If your half the man he was you'll do okay" just wouldn't have worked, obviously sometime between the time that line was written and 1997, Lucas decided to change Anakin's character drastically by making him a pansy (which better fit hist original vision) rather than a cool hero, so of course that line had to go. I understand that they were originally going to redub it to "if you are half the pansy he was, then you might survive this" but the guy who played red leader was unavailable, so they just went the CGI extra route.

I, for one, would like to see this scene.
The Jabba scene is onthat one CD (I don't remember i'ts name, sorry, same one with the b&w tatooine scenes), is this scene there as well?

The Luke/Biggs Rebel Base scene in on the official DVD. I don't know if the scene was ever released in an unedited form. The other Biggs/Tatooine scenes are on the 'behind the magic' CD-rom. The Jabba scene (pre-CGI?) I think is on another CD-rom, but I don't have that one and I forget the name.

I think the reason it was exercised was because Lucas actually was showing Luke's father as a boy in Episode I, obviously without any Rebel Leader character, so for the purposes of continuity he decided to make things easier and snip it out. Because honestly if he left it in we would all be here complaining about how in Star Wars red leader says he knew Anakin as a boy but in Episode I theres no mention of him. Theres enough continuity issues in the PT as it is, here was one that Lucas actually caught.

But still, do the Prequels show us every person that Anakin ever met as a youngster? Of course not. It wouldn't have been a continuity problem to have shown that a character in ANH knew Anakin as a young man who wasn't introduced in the Prequels.

And red leader is saying that he new Luke's father when he, red leader, was a boy. That means he could have met Anakin at any time since Anakin's age was never mentioned, could have been between one and two, or between 2 and 3.

I wonder if Red Leader was a youngling who escaped Anakin's wrath.

"I knew your father when I was a boy. Real asshole. Killed all my classmates. Good pilot though ... If you're half the man he was ... well, come to think of it, HE is half the man he was. I'll explain after we blow up the Death Star and kill Vader. Meanwhile, don't worry. You'll do well."

But after Obi was done with Ani, Luke was twice the man his father was.
