Quote: Just curious, how much is this worth?

I recently got an original Star Wars theatrical program from 1977. It is in beautiful condition. Does anyone know what this is worth? I’m just wondering; it’s not for sale. Here are pics:

Do you know if it's a first printing? Apparently the first printing sold out (& is probably pretty rare). Then there was a second printing in 1977 or 1978 that they must've printed a TON of. I say this b/c a few years ago I went to the "Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination" Exhibit at the Saint Paul Science Museum. They had a decent stack of these second printings for sale in the gift store. They were uncirculated, but in varying states of condition (though most were pretty nice). I actually bought one b/c it was so cool (& such a surprise to see real vintage merch for sale at an official LUcasfilm exhibit like that!). But they were only about $20 or $25 if I remember, so probably not worth too much (especially considering they were probably a little overpriced like everything else in the gift shop...).

So yeah, if it's a first printing, it might actually be worth something, though I couldn't really tell you what.

If it's a second printing, it's not worth much but still a really cool collectable.

I'm pretty sure this is a first printing. The inside says "Copyright 1977© Twentieth Century Fox-Film Corporation", and the friend who gave it to me says he bought it at the theater in June of 1977. Thank you both for your replies.

The reprint would say this as well, as the copyright hadn't changed.  But you'd need to find someone with a different version to check if there is a note saying 'Second Printing, Nov 1978' or something similar.

Here's someone else's scans: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VTJTHYCC

Here's someone selling the second edition:

http://www.amazon.com/Star-movie-program-theatrical-release/dp/B0032MWW6S

This 16-page softcover program was one of the earliest products available for sale in theaters where Star Wars was shown in 1977. It features color and black and white photos, cast biographies, character information, and accounts of making the film. The second edition features a textured cover, compared to the glossy cover of the first edition. The 2nd edition interior pages also have a matte rather than a glossy finish.

Here's a page selling a copy for $40 bucks (1st edition)

http://emorysmemories.tripod.com/websale/star_wars.htm

STAR WARS ORIGINAL THEATRICAL MOVIE PROGRAM: May 1977, First Printing, purchased at the film premiere, graded and priced as VF due to a 1 inch back cover and last page crinkle, size 11.75 x 9 inches, 20 pages including covers. Tom Jung cover artwork used on the original half-sheet poster. Includes many color and B&W stills from the film, cast and character bios, film history piece, bios for George Lucas and Gary Kurtz, and the film's cast and technical credits. See cover  $40

I'm pretty sure you got the 1st printing, compyislife. Besides the glossy versus matte finish, IIRC some of the interior pages had a pink color rather than the yellow/beige of the first one. I bought a mint copy myself of the first printing along with the Empire program on ebay a few years ago, they're not worth that much but it is a very nice thing to own.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com
