Joss Whedon's Greedo Revenge — Page 3

Hmm, it's strange that one person would find it boring, as I found it much more action-packed (and at times too action-packed) compared to the series. But as far as the series being "half as good" as Serenity, I think you're in for a treat, as I think the series is at least twice as good as the movie.

Of course he sounds "strange." He's a geek! He has a much more humble persona than Mr. Lucas, and he's fun to listen to. I constantly listen to the preview screening introduction, because I love the stuff he says there. My personal favorite is when he says, "This is, in an unprecedented sense your movie. Which means... that if it sucks, it's your fault." He actually has a sense of humor. I am by no means a Joss Whedon fanboy. I couldn't care less about Buffy and Angel. But Firefly, I'm tempted to say, is better than most of Star Wars.

I'm sorry if rocks come my way too, but I have to agree with Battlewars. I've never liked anything Joss Whedon has done. I know he wrote/contributed to a few episodes of Roseanne, which is a show I really enjoyed, but I hate Buffy, Angel, and Firefly. I have lots of friends who love these shows. I've watched them at times with them. I'm one of the countless people who've been generously loaned a boxset of Firefly to kindle the flame of fandom...kappooee!! (I watched the WHOLE thing, bored to tears at times.)
These ensembles he creates for his shows! They all just happen to be thrown together in this crazy life? Riiiiiiiight. I know, I know - lots of shows/movies have ensembles, but there's something different about these...it just seems cookie cuttery to me.
And the characters seem too GOOD (Firefly). I know they're not written exactly go-od, but I don't believe them. They are good.
AND -- I HATE it when people compare Mal to Han Solo! ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I much prefer the new Battlestar Galactica. But I am only a mild fan of it at this point.

You are entitled to your opinions, but I don't see how Serenity, at the very least, could be considered boring. It's like Firefly on speed. And I really wish someone would explain to me how exactly Serenity is confusing. I'm not trying to be insulting, but I just don't see it. I am coming from a perspective of being familiar with the series, so I guess that would give me an advantage, but even trying to see it from the perspective of a newbie, I just don't see what's so confusing about it. Help me out?

Forgive my lack of pronounciation marks. I think you get the point.

Hey, I'm a Browncoat.

But I only discovered Firefly late, since Fox kept messing withthe show. I only got to see the first episode when it was broadcast which was actually the third one. So I did not get to see the show in it's entirety until the DVD set came my way. I thinnk Joss Whedon wrote some of the most brilliant pieces of television in along time with Buffy. Firefly fans have become more devoted than any other fandom lately. Trek has died away thanks to Rick Berman, and Star Wars is now just a pop-fueled money machine that has lost it's soul. Firefly was a series that fought against the odds, was embraced by fans, critics, shut down by an uncaring and idiotic Network, yet to this day still attracts devoted fans. Most of which are a lot more outspoken than I am.

As far as Battlestar Galactica goes, I just can't bring myself to watch it having very distinct memories of the original. Not that I was in love with the original, but if they intended to make so many drastic changes, why bother calling it Galactica?
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

Especially about other Browncoats. Some of them are veeeeeery devoted. It's scary and admirable at the same time. Trek fans used to be that devoted, Star Wars fans used to be that devoted until the generation got older and the newer fans were merchandised to death.

I once thought the same way but the bastards hooked me- and hooked me hard!

Seriously, I'm 34 and was a big fan the original BSG growing up. Heck I even walked into my wedding ceremony a couple years back to the original BSG theme (I thought if the bride could walk down the aisle to a song why can't the guys walk in to a rousing space theme?!?!)! When I first heard about the new series and even after attempting to watch the mini-series as it originally aired I thought 'Bah- what crap. Sacrilege!!!' But...

The guys at the DigitalBits, in their review of the mini-series DVD, stressed that upon watching it commercial free and straight through on the DVD that they gained SO much more respect for it. So I took the plunge and bought it. And tried watching... and enjoyed it... and wanted more. Thanks to UK friends and the fact that Sky showed the entire first season before even half had shown on Sci-Fi I was able to watch through the first season... and loved it. Absolutely. Its now really the only TV series I make a point of watching and I've managed to convert several of my similarly minded friends who also objected to the idea.

No one here can ever know for sure what someone else will like, but like 'Firefly' BSG is another show I'd recommend renting on DVD and giving a watch!

"Joss says, more or less, "Including this, Mal shoots a total of three unarmed men in this movie. Besides being a response to the Greedo confrontation in the revised Star Wars, it's also to show that Mal isn't quite your traditional hero, and he'll do what he has to do..." etc, etc."

Not to get off-topic Jenny but you should buy Serenity and the Firefly series even *without* the reference- GOOD STUFF!!!!

I was a bit slow to buy it, but I just watch the first ep of thh TV show and then the film. Great stuff and surely one of the best sci-fi films I've seen in years.

I was interested to read in Total Film this month that Whedon originally wanted to do a 'Han Solo before he joined the Rebellion' show. Having now seen Serenity I would have loved to see what Joss could have come up with! Wouldn't it be great to see him as a guest director on the SW TV series. He clearly has an affection for the saga and given his Han Solo comments on the commentary, he thinks like we do!
