Anyone ever seen this?  I just happened to be checking out the Officialpix website and never saw this pic before.

its possible, luke did get in the shuttle with vader. it does look kinda weird though so i can see why they would cut the scene out.

Author

Its probably just them walking across the set. It doesn't look like an actual scene to me.

But why would they be on that set at all?  With Mark in handcuffs?

I think its good that the scene was cut, because all I can imagine it being is more of the same Luke pleading for Vader to turn, or just a glimpse of Lucas wanting unneccessary shots to assure you that yes, the shuttle did land where it was going (a la ESB:SE).

This actually was a deleted scene.  It was in the novel and the shooting script.*  It really was just Luke and Vader walking across the hanger.  As they got to the end of the hangar, they passed a handful of Imperial Dignitaries who watched them suspiciously.  The scene continued with Vader and Luke getting off of the elevator in the Emperor's throne room.

Not a big loss.

*At least in my re-creation of the shooting script.  Because the novel matched so many scenes on storyboards and call sheets, I concluded that both the novel and the call sheets are based on the (currently lost) shooting script.  I based my reconstructed shooting script on the novel.  Photos from the set seem to back up the material in the novel that is now missing from the film.  I could go on about this for hours....

The 'returning to jedi' documentary shows a lot of stills of deleted scenes.

There was also a scene of Vader walking down a corridor on his way to meet the Emperor's shuttle, which was also cut from the movie.

That photo looks  a little photoshopped. Are we sure it's even legit?

and there were some deleted scenes from the space battle like some dudes firing from the Falcon's quad cannons.

but WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!

looks to me like the rebels are taking luke hostage.

I'm pretty sure the shot of Luke and Vader is legit. Luke's pose only seems odd as the photo catches him in mid-stride.

Some publicity shots could have been a little disinformation campaign on the part of Lucasfilm just like the phony script pages were.

I remember one old fan club newsletter intwerview where one of the people working on the film casually mentioned Aunt Beru was still alive!

Interesting that one of the rebel troops is holding Luke's lightsaber though!

I am pretty sure the one with the rebels was one for the extras to take home and show their kids.  Just a publicity pic.

As for the Luke and Vader one, I have two or three more from that sequence.  They are on my home computer, so I'll post them tomorrow.  Totally legit.

That photo is just too awesome for words! :-P  Thanks!

I'm constantly amazed at how many photos there are out there that I've never seen before, even after all these years.

94 EXT. BUNKER

Han sneaks up behind the remaining Imperial scout, taps him on the shoulder and lets the scout chase him behind the bunker into the arms of the waiting Rebel strike team. Han returns to the front, and taps out a pattern on the bunker door's control panel.  Everyone stands out of sight, police-style, as the door opens.  Han and Leia peek inside. No sign of life. The group enters the bunker silently, leaving one lookout, disguised in the armor of a stripped Imperial Scout, behind.

95 INT. DEATH STAR MAIN DOCKING BAY

Vader's shuttle settles onto the docking bay of the Death Star. Luke and the Dark Lord emerge from the landing ramp with a small escort of stormtroopers, and walk rapidly across the cavernous main bay to the Emperor's tower elevator.

Royal guards awaited them there, flanking the shaft. They open the elevator door. Luke steps forward.

96 INT. DEATH STAR – EMPEROR’S ROOM

The elevator opens. Vader and Luke enter the room alone. They walk across the dark space to stand before the throne, father and son side by side beneath the gaze of the Emperor. Vader bows to his Master.

EMPEROR

Welcome, young Skywalker. I have been expecting you.

This scene was filmed.  Another scene that was not which had a sketch done  for it is Luke and Vader inside the shuttle on their ride to the death star which would have been right before this scene.   It was on star wars official site like a lot of rare images only available to Hyperspace subscribers.

The sketch was done by an Art/Set designer on the film. To describe the interior lighting to be used inside the shuttle, and whether or not this set piece was even needed.

Many of the deleted scenes that were shot or not shot were dropped because they were not needed in the exposition of the main plot.  Like the sandstorm scene, luke building his new lightsaber on tatooine, Jejjerod being force choked by Vader.

The scene that always bothered me not being in the film when i was a kid was how did Luke Get that Green Lightsaber When the one he had in the first 2 was blue that he lost getting his hand chopped off in cloud city.

I always thought the line Vader says " I see You have constructed a new Lightsaber.  Your skills are complete indeed you are powerfull as the emporer has foreseen" Was a dead giveaway that the lightsaber scene was missing from the film.

See in the prequels All Jedi have Lightsabers and they really are not that special, but in the oot it was a Mark of being special if you could construct one and set the crystals properly.  It was the last step to completing your jedi training.  In the prequels they give them to younglings like they are trinkets in a cracker jack box. Which is silly because only someone special trained can wield one without  accidentally cutting off their arm or something themselves since they can cut through anything.  But in the prequels the younglings sabers have a stun setting, lol.  The things lucas made up in the prequels like Midi-Chlorians, roflmao.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

I don't know if they've ever been made public. A couple old Starlog articles on Jedi make reference to them.

I presume it's stuff along the lines of the phony dialog Dave Prowse was given on the Empire set. "Obi-Wan killed your father."

Yeah, the rebels turned against Luke after Vader killed the emperor!

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Which is actually true...from a certain point of view.

I actually missed out on an opportunity around three years ago to get a special effects crew final shooting script from ROTJ.Wish I could remember where that sold to now.Was just too much at the time as I had some other deals going on which included, oddly enough, the deal for my third draft ANH script.
