Hayden Christensen's Bro Arrested for Assault

Tove & Hayden ChristensenTMZ has learned Hayden Christensen's brother, producer Tove Christensen, was arrested early this morning for felony assault with a deadly weapon -- when he allegedly dragged his girlfriend around 30 feet after she clung to the side of his car.

LAPD responded to a 911 call in Hollywood around 2:30 AM after an argument broke out between the couple. Witnesses told law enforcement that Christensen pushed her to the ground and hopped in his car -- but when his GF reached inside to grab her purse, Tove hit the gas and dragged her down the street.

When police arrived, the girlfriend had visible marks on her arm. They later tracked down Tove at his L.A. home and arrested him.

He's currently being held on $30,000 bail.

Tove -- produced brother Hayden's movie "Shattered Glass," and according to his Wiki, had one line in one episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

I hope he doesn't get off with a slap on the wrist, because violence against women is pretty disturbing to me personally.

But in Lucas's movies, the audience should feel for that person and should be redeemed in the end -:)

Violence against people of any gender is a serious business. It doesn't become suddenly worse or better based on the gender of the victim. People of both genders are human beings and have the same right not to be subjected to violence.

The idea that violence against women is worse than violence against men is rooted in old-fashioned sexist attitudes toward women. Basically this traditional view of women as these helpless little people who can't stand up for themselves and can't do things for themselves and need to be protected by men and treated like pieces of delicate china. It's tied to a whole load of other stupid attitudes about women. It's very disempowering for women when attitudes like that are around the place.

I think you misunderstood what I meant,  I don't look at any particular violence more disturbing then another.  Some men think that hitting a women isn't a bad thing, ala Sean Connery's interview many years ago with Barbara Walters where he pretty much said you need to smack a women around sometimes if they get out of line.  Because he was Sean Connery, he got away with it at the time, but my point is that some guys go by this rationale, and I was brought up the exact opposite way.

Some guys do indeed lash out at women a lot. It's a problem that a lot of effort has been put into tackling, but with limited progress. There's two things there, gender attitudes and violence attitudes. Some people have seriously negative attitudes toward the gender they don't belong to. Sexist attitudes and gender-hatred are major problems society needs to tackle. A lot of common attitudes need to be rethought. And some people seem to think it's ok to carelessly lash out at other human beings with violence. It's all too common. Human nature is violent. Male on female violence, male on male violence, female on female violence, female on male violence. There's a lot of it. Violence being casually thrown around is a problem that society has to confront. You're always hearing in the news about some new horrible violent crime. People need to get more civilized.

As for specifically male on female violence, I've got a cousin whose husband put his hands around her throat. He also had a thing for punching their kids. Luckily she successfully left him and took the kids with her. At first the authorities weren't very helpful but that improved. I'm very glad he's out of the picture. The throat thing is pretty significant, because strangulation is one of the primary ways women are murdered. It was a worrying situation before she got out of there.

Oh yeah, I had completely forgotten about that Sean Connery thing. I like that he stuck to his view and didn't change his opinion or pretend to change his opinion despite it being extremely unpopular. That said, a guy who will smack a woman around is a complete duche.

I very much agree with Vaderisnohayden in saying that it is a bit sexist to consider violence against women worse than violence against anyone else (i.e. a woman who beats on her husband or kids is equally upsetting to me as a man who beats on his wife and kids), but the real issue is with the person enacting the violence being more powerful than the one being treated violently. Biologically, men are typically stronger than women. Is this a mean sexist sort of a thing to say? Sadly, some women would take offense, but it is simply reality. You get a lot of guys who smack their wives around just because they can, it makes them feel powerful and in control, but in reality, they are just creeps beating on someone weaker than themselves. Same thing with child beating. If you really want to feel good about your brutishness, go pick on someone your own size.
