Been doing some thinking... OT box set

How about a lawsuit against Lucasfilm!!!

JUST KIDDING!

This whole sub-par Sept. 12 DVD release has got me thinking. Will the OOT be release in the boxset in 07?
There was a rumor a while back that the original negatives were washed and cleaned up. Obviously not for the Sept. release.
Lucasfilm has stated that they have no plans now or in the near future to restore and release the OOT. That said, They admit that they have it and of course they will say that as to not hurt the upcoming release.
The upcoming release is for a limited time only. Why?
It has also been stated that this release is for the casual fan. What does that mean? It means that the die-hards will not buy a crappy version, but will shell out the big bucks for a restored version, even if it means paying for movies they already own and/or don’t want.
This release is a test to see if the people want the OOT? Of course they do. Release it twice (individual and in a super boxset) and everybody is happy, right?
Now there is news on Hyperspace about digging in the archives for more goodies. Wow, I bet they found they original negatives! And some deleted scenes! (sarcasm)

So what does this all mean? I have no idea. LOL What are your thoughts? I am still unsure if I am getting the Sept. 12 release. Part of me wants to and then that be the end of Star Wars for me. Another part of me wants to not buy it and keep hoping and waiting. However, life is too short and I am getting tired of all the BS.

I think you're probably right. There will be another release - a better release. Star Wars is all Lucas has to offer the world. He's not about to make it so that he can reach some sort of stopping point.

If not, I have a watchable (and enjoyable) version. At this point, a proper anamorphic version would just be a bonus - not something I'm going to be loosing sleep over.

I've been thinking the exact same thing. So in one respect, I belive the September release will be the only way to get the original movies by themselves. To do something like restore the movies and compile a ton of other footage for new documentaries of all six films will take a lot of time. Lucas just wants to stop bootlegs for the time being. But then again, if he were to say "The original movies will be restored and included in a 2007 box set," no one would be complaining. Most would say take your time and get it right. I think Lucas is doing the same thing as Blade Runner, but not disclosing it. Then again the '97 BR dvd is anamorphic.

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

Ha ha ha - "Is there something you have to say, Amazing Larry?!?!?"

I want to do a Pee-Wee's Bigger Adventure Extended Edition with the flying bow-tie scene back in and other stuff.
