 (Edited)

I know that these are your edits and your versions of the movies but I wanted to weigh in. Ive read this whole thread and looked at most of the clips you have posted. I am only offering my opinion of these things, please take them with a grain of salt and I certainly not attacking you in any way....again these are just my opinions. OK here we go lol

The Phantom Menace "Attack of the Federation" Current edit list:

- Pod race will be patterned after Slumberland's cut of the sequence (f***ing brillant editing, btw) as well as a bit of Magnioliafan's version I personally love the Pod race. I dont understand why everyone wants to cut this down, I like it with the extended lap 2 put back in even.
- no midichlorians, virgin birth, or Chosen One prophecy I understand the midichlorian edit by why take out the virgin birth or Chosen One prophecy? These are classic myth story points, I really like them.
- Sidious's face is kept in the shadows (and his voice might also be lowered) Interesting, I wouldnt mess with his voice. Ian has a fantastic voice, it doesnt need to be touched.
- battle droids' voices will either be removed or have their pitch lowered to be more serious (based on the scene)
- deleted scene with Anakin beating up Greedo will be added back into the film as Anakin's character introduction to Qui-Gon (instead of the "Jar-Jar gets in deep sh*t with Sebulba and Anakin saves his butt" sequence) How is that going to work when he is fighting Greedo becuase he accused him of cheating during the podrace? If you take out the accusation then why is he fighting Greedo?
- deleted scene of Qui-Gon cutting down the probe droid
- no "traveling through planet core" scenes (neither the first or second half) Why?
- No mention of Queen Amadala being "elected" (hey George, I'm pretty sure that queens aren't elected...) Different culture different government and it will affect too many other scenes that will also have to be excised. (Not a big fan of the removal of Star Wars footage.)
- a lot less dialogue redundacy by "Captain Obvious" (don't know his name, but he's the guy who pilot's the Naboo cruiser and is always saying outloud exactly what's happening onscreen...) Captain Panaka is a complete tool. Go ahead cut him out! (Wow I just contridicted my last statement. Im sure you get what I mean though)
- removed the "Jar-Jar antics" at the Skywalker table [Phantom Editor's cut] I like how Qui-Gon grabs his tongue. It provides further evidence that he is a Jedi to Anakin before he confronts him about it.
- Anakin does not talk after the "No Sir" line during the Jedi Council's testing [based off of the Phantom Editor's cut, but some shots/footage used is different] Leave the scene as it is
- took out Qui-Gon's description of Obi-Wan to the Jedi Council to "sell" them on making him a Jedi Knight (scene cuts from Yoda's "Our own council we will keep on who is ready" to "Skywalker's fate will be decided later")  Leave the scene as it is
- removed Qui-Gon asking Obi-Wan to train Anakin at his death ummm why? Why would Obi-Wan train Anakin then? do you think the removal of this line makes it tie in better with the "I thought that I could train him just as well as Yoda." line? I disagree.

Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic (aka, "Attack of the Clones"): Twilight of the Republic does not sound like a Star Wars title to me.

2. Re-edited the "Zam Chase" Re-edited or cut out large sections? I like the Zam chase.
3. Edited Zam's final lines to include subtitles about the Kamino System (eliminating the "toxic dart" subplot) Why? I assume you are taking out the dinner scene and the scene with the padawans. Id rather they were left in.
4. The few times that Jar-Jar speaks (for plot purposes), he has been re-dubbed into a different English-speaking voice. Obviously I havent seen it yet but that edit sounds like it would be, well umm jarring. Im expecting to hear Jar Jar and hear some other bloke?
5. Added deleted scenes "Mace with Obi-Wan", "Arrival to Naboo", and "Padme's Family" back to the film Yay! I like the deleted scenes. Though I assume you are cutting up the arrival scene since it refers to terms of Padme being the queen. Actually since Queens dont stop being Queen until they are dead I assume you are taking out the senator references as well...If she is traveling as the Queen where are her handmaidens....see you have to leave the elected Queen thing in.
6. Anakin/Padme relationship has been refined and streamlined into an actual romance (based on the previous work and of the Phantom Editor) I only saw his edit ionce a long time ago so I cant comment, I can only assume you are cutting out a large amount of the dialog between Padme and Anakin that a large amount of the fan base despise. I would not be for an edit like that.
7. Boba Fett is NOT a clone of his father, Jango Fett Youve probably guessed by this point that I actually like the prequels...however, there was one thing about the prequels that I HATED that almost no one bitches about. That Boba Fett was made a clone. They took the coolest minor character from the OT and ruined him. Boba Fett was complete bad ass and they turned him into a Stormtrooper with cooler armor. I am all for this edit of yours.
8. Jango Fett's helmet now has a voice modulator Have to hear it but I like Jango's voice
9. Re-edited Obi-Wan's space fight with Jango in the asteroids why?
10. Watto is not a slave trader nor were Shmi or the Skywalkers ever slaves (he is now just someone familar with Anakin and his family) Wow that means a massive amount of removal of footage from Phantom Meance and more from attack of the clones...so, no. Why is the idea of them being slaves a bad concept anyway?
12. Anakin arrives on Tatooine only find his mother already dead and buried (no Sand People subplot) Absolutely not, this is far too important to the whole trilogy to edit out. No WAY
13. Owen is Anakin's younger brother (none of this "step-brother" BS) No way, Anakin, the most powerful force user ever has a complete force turd for a brother? No.
14. Qui-Gon Jinn is only referenced as someone close to Obi-Wan who had died (more ambiguous than the standard "master/apprentice" relationship) Why does it need to be Ambiguous? Sorry Qui-Gon is my favorite of the Prequel new characters.
15. Count Dooku is no longer "Darth Tyranous" and has absolutely NO connection to the Sith - he is a rouge Jedi who left the Order after discovering the truth of Sidious and organized the Separatists as a means of stopping the Sith HATE this idea. Count Dooku is a complete bad-ass and I dont understand why everyone wants to diminish his role in the prequels. Not to mention we all know that Palpatine orchestrated the whole seperatist thing. By making Dooku not part of his plans you are diminishing Palpatines brilliance.
16. Dooku's lightsaber has been rotoscoped to be purple instead of "Sith red" See above. At least make the saber green or blue or some other color entirely. You are diminshing Mace by giving Dooku a purple blade.
17. Yoda force/lightsaber battle with Duku NEVER HAPPENS I know you hate it but this is completely bad-ass, leave it in. How could Yoda teach anyone or end up being a Jedi if he never fought anybody? I saw your edit of this and he just leaves without killing Obi-wan or Anakin? Why?

Star Wars: The Black Knight Rises
(aka, "Revenge of the Sith"): does not sound like a Star Wars title to me.

4. The subplots of "Jedis not being able to marry" and "Anakin keeping his marriage to Padme is a secret" are cut from the story - it is now known (and acceptable) that Padme is Anakin's wife and that Anakin is her child's father The fact that Jedi cant form attachments is completely logical. It makes perfect sense. Look what happened with anakin's attachment to Padme? The entire galaxy suffers becuase of it. Leave it in.
5. Re-edited Anakin's post-nightmare talk with Padme to heighten their relationship and remove poor acting Have to see it, But I like it as is.
6. Completely removed scene of General Grevious arriving on Utopa and speaking with Sidious umm why?
7. The "Jedi spying on Palpatine" subplot has been tweaked to reflect Obi-Wan's rising distrust of Palpatine and Anakin's ignorance to the threat Have to see it
8. Added the deleted "Plot to Destroy the Jedi?" scene back into the film (which replaces a similar scene that occured later in the film between Mace and other Jedis)
9. Trimmed the "Opera House" scenes a bit to remove Anakin being caught about spying on Palaptine and to remove the dialogue regarding midiclorians Doubtful I would like this, the Scene between Palpatine and Anakin in the opera house is one of my favorite, I doubt it would have the same impact if the spying on Palpatine subplot is removed.
10. Added the deleted "A Stirring in the Senate" scene back into the film yay!
11. Cut and re-edited the "Mace VS Palpatine" duel (along with the following "Anakin's choice" scenes) to remove redundant elements and increase the drama of the sequence. Hmm have to see it
12. Re-edited "Order 66" to include the attack on the Jedi Temple and Anakin's encounter with the younglings into the rest of the sequence. I saw this on you tube, it works and I love how Aayla Secura is no longer in the sequence, I HATE how she went down like a punk. Aayla is a bad -ass and if I ever made a fan edit I would at least have her ignite her lightsaber.
13. Removed Obi-Wan/Yoda's attack on the clones outside the Temple For the love of the force why?!?!
14. Added additional children screams to the audio during the hologram playback of Anakin attacking the Jedi Temple ooooohh me likey this idea
15. Completely removed the "Yoda VS Sidious" duel from the film and edited the final battle into a single duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin I like the continous fight between Vader and Obi-Wan(saw your you tube post) but I LOATHE the idea of removing the yoda fight.
16. Removes reference to Padme "losing the will to live" (Really, Lucas? Really???) Yes really. Works with the mythic story telling that is Star Wars
17. Padme now gives birth to ONLY Luke (Leia is no longer the "Other" or Luke's twin sister) This one confounds me. Why on Earth would you do this? So The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi don't exist to you? I mean Why? Why? why? ::: goes off mumbling why to himself in the corner and blinking at the monitor trying to understand what he just read :::
18. Cut and re-edited the "Birth of Darth Vader" sequence to remove overtly 'stupid' plotpoints What overtly stupid plotpoints?
19. Film now ends with Padme, Darth Vader, and Obi-Wan/Luke sequences okay the whole Death Star thing. everyone hates the Death Star shot, I LOVE it. It helps bring the trilogy together. But everyone says "Why does it take 19 years to build one DS and only 3 to build the second?" Who said that? No one. Who says they are only building one at the end of RotS? No one. "If they are building two where is the other one?" Who says they have to be built in the same place? Why would they? Put the Death star back in. Why would they be starring at Coruscant? If they were there at Coruscant wouldnt they just be ON coruscant? Put the Death Star back in.

Wow, that took me awhile. Im sorry it seems overly negative. I didnt think it would be. I just took a look at this thread on a whim. I usually stay away from fan edits of the prequels and you can see why. But the first thing I read/looked at was your edit of the R2 smashes into the wall sequence in RotS and I liked that. So I thought maybe this edit was going it with a lighter touch. after going through all your proposed changes I can see that I, myself probably wont like it. But your edits seem well done from what I see and I wish you the best of luck.

I'd still love to hear your feedback Mr JasonN.

AxiaEuxine - I think it might be safe to say that this edit is probably just not for you, I think JasonN has stated many times what his goals are here and the work he's put in is phenominal, in fact, incredible considering how fast he's manged to do it as well lol but thats just my opinion, kudos for taking the time to type all that stuff out tho lol WOW ;)

Judging from your comments, it seems like you are much more of a purist of the PT than I am or will ever be.... which means that you will most definitely hate these fanedits. :/

However, I'll try to answer a few of your questions/comments (and forgive me if some of them are rather harsh, but I can get pretty vocal over some of the story/plot elements of the PT):

Titles
Sorry for being a bit rude here, but what the hell exactly IS a title for a Star Wars movie?

Attack of the Federation
Pod Race
I felt that the original Pod Race went on way too long and had two major flaws: a needless (or pointless) cameo by Jabba the Hutt and the worse, most annoying sports announcer that I've ever heard in a film. Slumberland's cut removed both Jabba and the alien announcer perfectly, which is why I patterned my Pod Race after his (along with my own tweaks/edits to the sequence)

Midiclorians/Virgin Birth/Chosen One Prophecy
Sorry, but I don't agree with you (and before you start up on these changes not being in line with the "myth" aspect of SW, note that I have also studied mythology and Joseph Cambell as well and I still don't agree with Lucas's story choices) - these subplots, as they were presented in the PT, were stupid, ridiculous, and a lot of WTF.

Sidious Mysterious Identity
What's the point of hiding a character's face (to conceal his identity) if you can still tell who it is just from the sound of his voice?

Greedo Fighting Anakin
It's never specified as to what it was the Greedo thought Anakin cheated on - the way it's been edited, the viewer thinks its just a child's game that got out of hand. Personally, I feel this is a much better introduction of Anakin to Qui-Gon rather than the previously mentioned "Jar-Jar gets in deep sh*t with Sebulba and Anakin saves his butt" scene.

Planet Core
I removed this sequence because it was, plainly and simply... retarded.

Elected Queen
Sorry, but a Queen is still a Queen in my book and the "different cultures" arguement would've be more effective if Lucas hadn't chosen to put in Earth-based releationships into SW (step-brother, girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, etc...)

Anakin at Jedi Council
For me, I really like PE cut of the scene because he removed Anakin's cockiness and made the boy seem more afraid (which is what the Council is saying), which ties in well with the following scenes where he is turned down to be trained

Obi-wan training Anakin
Yes, I feel that removing this plotpoint puts Obi-Wan more in line with his original character in the OT (we'll just have to agree to disagree)

Twilight of the Republic   (note that I am still editing EP2 and some of the edits previously listed are no longer a part of the edit - I've updated the list of cuts/edits on the first post of the thread)

Dax in Diner/Yoda Training Padawans
The Dax/Diner scene was terribly-written, served no point to the story (again: just have Zam mention the Kamino System), and was an example of incredibly poor visual design that is too "Earthbound" to be a part of alternative society in a Galaxy far, far away. For the Yoda/Padawans scene, I thought Obi-Wan looked really retarded compared to a little kid (who has an EXTREME cause of redubbing, I might add) - also, because I've added the Obi-Wan/Mace deleted scene back into the film, some of the youngling scene's content becomes redundant and not needed.

Jar-Jar's Voice
The redubing didn't go as well as I had hoped, so in the end I just pitched his voice slightly lower (so it actually sounds like he aged a bit since EP1)

Queen & Senator Amadala
For me, I'm perfectly fine with the concept that Amadala could be a Senator for the Galactic Senate and still be the Queen of Naboo. I mean, Bail Organa is suppose to be a king or some form of royalty on his planet of Alderaan (that is the reason why Leia is a Princess, right?) and he's a Senator, so why can't Padme?

Slave-1 Space Fight
To increase tension/suspense of the action and remove poor dialogue from Obi-Wan, Jango, and Boba.

Watto/Owen Lars/Qui-Gon reference
These edits/cuts are no longer in this fanedit as they were described (due to my decision to include EP1 into the continuity of EP2/EP3, which I hadn't decided on when I posted the cut list) - Watto is still a slave trader and owned Anakin/Shmi in EP1, Owen Lars is introduced by C-3PO as Master Owen (but there is no mention of him being a "step-brother" to Anakin), and Qui-Gon is still Obi-Wan's mentor in these edits.

Shmi Skywalker's Death
We're going to have to seriously disagree here, as I see this subpoint as being ultimately pointless to the PT and Anakin's fall to the Dark Side (which is primarily dealt with in Episode 3). The only major change in it's removal is that Anakin now appears to be a genuinely good (if somewhat impulsive) young man with a kind heart (just as Obi-Wan describes him in the OT), until he betrays the Jedi and joins the Sith in EP3.

Count Dooku
For me, the idea that Count Dooku was an antihero waging a war against the Republic in order to stop a mysterious Sith Lord who's gained control over the Senate was the most brilliant concept that George Lucas NEVER USED - rather than being a villain who was acting out of good intentions and in reality was a good guy (making both him and the Separatists more ambiguous and complex to the plot), Lucas instead just made him into a nondescript "bad guy" and gave the audience no explanation as to why he joined the Sith/Sidious (and before anytime tries to tell me that his backstory was completely explained in some EU novel/comic/game/etc, bear in mind that my only interest in SW is in the films themselves)

Dooku's Lightsaber
Ok, how the heck am I "diminishing" Mace Windu by giving Dooku a similar-colored lightsaber? Do all Jedis have "lightsaber color-coding" based on their rank??? For the record, I chose the color purple it was the only other lightsaber color that I've seen in the movies apart from blue or green and I wanted Dooku's lightsaber to be a different color than either Anakin's or Obi-Wan's in their first duel.

Removal of Yoda's Duel
No, this fight is not "badass".... IT IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS F***ING DESECRATIONS OF ONE OF MY FAVORITE STAR WARS CHARACTERS!!!
Most people bitch about "Greedo Shooting First" as destroying their memories of SW, but for me, this is far, FAR worse: I utterly HATE this sequence from both a CG graphics/effect ("Yes ILM, just turn Yoda into a spazzy looney toon...") and what it said about the character of Yoda - as a Jedi Master who's similar to a chi/zen master, why would Lucas make it so that the way he deals with a character like Dooku is through violence? I can understand why he used a lightsaber during the Order 66 (merely out of self-protection), but to make him arrive there to solely kick Dooku's ass... Lucas, you royally f***ed over my favorite SW character...

The Black Knight Rises

Grevious on Utopa
It was removed because the Separatists are no longer affiliated with or controlled by Darth Sidious and to provide some mystery as to where Grevious and the Droid Army escaped to.

Yoda/Obi-Wan Attack in Temple
Because the fight is ultimately pointless (just have them arrive in the Temple to find the dead Jedi and children) and I DON'T want to see Yoda fighting

Yoda/Sidious Fight
No, no, no, no, NO!!!

Padme's "Losing the Will to Live"
Regardless of how much of a "myth" Lucas tries to make SW into (and how much bullsh*t he tries to feed down our throats about it being one), the fact remains that this plot twist was completely ridiculous and ruined the character of Padme Amadala for me:
"So, because her husband chose to become an evil Sith Lord who slaughtered children (oh, wait, I'm sorry... 'there is still Good in him"...), this woman is going to chose to die even though she still has two young children to love and raise? What a selfish bitch."

Luke's Birth
Part of this choice to not show Leia being born is due to my decision to make a fanedit of Return of the Jedi (and judging from your comments on these PT edits, you'll probably commit suicide from my planned edits of RotJ...), but it's also to preserve some mystery to the story and the fates of certain characters for later Episodes (for those people who actually chose to watch the movies in chronological order)

Birth of Vader
Umm... how about the "NNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" moment?

Death Star Construction
Said it before and I'll say it again: the whole idea that it takes the Galactic Empire nearly 17-18 years to complete the first DS yet only took 2-3 years to finish the second DS MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO DAMN SENSE. Your whole arguement of "maybe they were building more than one at the end of EP3" is also meaningless because according to "offical" SW canon (ie, what Lucas claims to be the truth) the DS present in Return of the Jedi is the second one that they built AFTER THE FIRST ONE IS DESTROYED!

As with all of these edits the editor has the final say (they are doing the hard work and their decision is final).

I just wish someone who actually LIKED the prequels would do an edit. I would if I had the time, talent, resources, patience blah blah blah

I think that's what Phantom Editor did. He just worked to improve the films, take out the flaws he saw in the editing, where he saw bad editing choices as harmful to the story being told, not to radically change the story.

You might want to look at the various extended editions. ADM's Episode III is also nearly untouched with a few deleted scenes reinserted.

I hate to be the one to ask this, but someone has to: What would be the point? If you like them as they are, why make a fan edit?

And now to sort of contradict my above sentence, I suppose that anyone who actually takes the time and effort to make a fanedit, obviously likes the film well enough. Any edits I have done have always been of films I absolutely loved, but felt could benefit from an addition of a deleted scene here, and the removal of a poorly delivered line there. I tried to make my own PT edits, but after much wasted time, I gave up because I realized my heart wasn't in it, I simply didn't give a damn about the PT. No amount of editing would make me dislike it any less.

As someone who has done some editing in the past, I can say that for JasonN to have taken all the time and effort to do what he is doing, he clearly really loves these films, and wants them to work. I suppose it is kind of like a child, you love them, and you really want them to succeed in life, and when they do stupid things to screw themselves up, it breaks your heart and you want to do everything in your power to set them on the right path.

Realistically, the PT is a colossal mess, it contradicts itself and never takes itself seriously enough for anyone watching it to take it seriously. It has some great moments, but it pisses on those with poorly planned and abandoned and reworked plot points. If you don't think about it too much, the movies are good enough, but when you really start paying attention to the story, and the things the characters are saying, it is all nuts! I killed them all, even the women and the children. That is okay Anakin, you are only human. Anakin was... killing younglings. No, he'd never do anything like that. Sigh. Nothing meshes, nothing fits together. The PT doesn't even work as a trilogy on its own, let alone a six movie saga with the OT.

Good luck to anyone like JasonN who tries to straighten out such a mess. He is clearly a bigger PT fan than most of those who claim to love them uncondictionally. I am not one to care for PT edits, but I will be looking after this one with great interest.

JasonN, sorry for temporarily hijacking your thread. Now back to our regularly scheduled topic...

We all like Star Wars A New Hope and Star Wars Revisited was made and appreciated by all. I suppose that would be the point.

Oh and JasonN, please don't refer to me as a purist. I don't see myself that way.

JasonN - I posted this review over at FanEdit as well, just thought I'd share here too.... I really wanted to take my time on pointing out all the cool stuff seeing as your hard work deserved some early praise right away!!

What was Great -

Sidiuous actually being a shadow/phantom and his voice having a deeper more "sith-like" feel to it, a totally orig on your part and a perfect addition!

The Alien Subtitles - they are all great and add a humor/danger whatnot to all the scenes!

Anakin- again, great job keeping what worked in his performance and making him a talented kid and future Jedi rather than the *ahem* "chhoooseeennnnn ooonneeeee" ... lol

Jar-Jar - wow, I barely even noticed him, awesome job!!!! He really is a second player now and blends nto the background more so than the Ewoks did in ROTJ, so great work!!!

What was Good-

Video quality/coloration is exactly as it appeared in the movies, barring full dvd release, but for xvid, plays great!

Sound- great work!!!!!!!

What stood out too much -

Only one gripe and it might be me so bear that in mind, but when the Trade Federation ships land on Naboo to invade, as the tanks dispatch there is a hard cut to the Naboo Palace. I figured you were trying to cut out the Niemodians and Droids talking scene, but it seemed pretty abrupt to me PLUS we then go to Naboo Palace where the Queen says she didn't want to start a war.. seems wierd we would see the war starting before she says that, but thats my opinion.

The opening crawl... LOVE The BLUE scheme, glad you kept it, but the description still reads boring Lucas style, kinda hoped you would have kept the "Slavery" being outlawed bit rather than taxation.... but oh well :)

And of course I still really like ADM's OT music addition to the podrace scene, mostly cause it added OT Williams music and the force theme to Anakin as he fixes his pod, for my own purposes I'll prob re-edit that into the vid for my own viewing pleasure, please don't take that as a crit - I understand you wanted a true 5.1 so I completely get it, but I'm not as picky on that front and would prefer more variety in the tunes... as it stands now, there just way too much Trade Federation music being looped by ol Ben Burtt.

What I could wish for -

A true color fix - but were all gonna have to wait till Ady gets to this for that to happen, as it stands now the colors are all pink hued and bloomed out... *sigh* not yur fault just another Lucas decision...

Again phenom work JasonN!!! I know these three edits almost killed you so you deserve high praise and I truly look forward to the next Episode release...

I may sound like an old man, but I have no idea how to use this linktalk stuff.

I go to the only place called linktalk I can find through google, and search "attack of the federation" and come up with nothing.

White43 on FE hs informed me that there is a typo in one of Watto's subtitles (in the Pod Racer hanger, when he talks to Anakin about Qui-Gon making bets) - this will be corrected for the DVD version.

EDIT: And ther appears to be another typo in one of the Greedo scenes - again, this will be fixed for the DVD.

Special thanks to vaderios for originally pointing this EP3 continuity error and for providing me some photo reference to use for the compositing - this is Vader's "neck armor" fix for my EP3 fanedit:

apparently Im suffering from old age as well, can someone send me a PM on where to get this. I want to take a look.  Nevermind I figured it out, apprently you have to be a registered member of this site and post at least once in order to see the links. what a pain in the ass! Not to mention linkshare tries to dump a trojan on my system! WTF!! Not cool dude.

Man I was really going to take a look at this but rapidshare makes you wait 15 minutes between downloads. Can someone upload this as a full avi or seed it. Or something?
