Jap Definitive Col. Hue

Author

Hello all.
This is the first time i post here, but i am following the forum for some time.

I am making my own preservation project (mainly for friends and for fun)
I have a question about the hue, skin tone of the def. col.

I have the Japanese Def Col. First edition (with the book) and the skin tone is really red~purple in comparaison with my other sets (SE, Pal fr THX, Pal fr SE)
Nothing than can't be tweaked but ..

Here a raw screencap (from DSCALER with a cx23881 all player filters off) :

I have seen some raw cap of the US Def. Face. and the hue (not perfect too) doesn't seems so off :

So the Jap Def has a worst hue than the US ?

Sorry fo my english
Thank you - Happy new year

LOL...long time with no answer. I don't have the Jap (no offense) NTSC version, but I do know it has a lower IRE level than the US NTSC set. That being said, I don't think that setting alone would account for the red in the officer's face. We'll have to get Karyudo or zion in here, as I believe one of them has those sets.

JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

I could be wrong, but your initial screenshot looks a lot like the raw X0 capture. I'll have to check tonight and see.

I assume you got that other pic of the three US versions from me. Those were taken obviously from an inferior LD player, as the level of detail and ghosting suggests. Also keep in mind that things like color and hue will vary between captures especially when different equipment and software is used. I have a feeling that if I had captured a shot of the Japanese DefCol LD and included it, it would look very similar to the US version with only the IRE difference apparent. Also note that the hue is different between the US DefCol and the US Faces, with the DefCol actually looking closer to the red/purple hue of your Japanese capture.

So I guess what I'm saying is that the hue might not be as far off as you think. I just depends on your capturing equipment and laserdisc player.

Oh, and by the way, that capture is outstanding! Very clean and detailed. May I ask what laserdisc player you used?

thank you for your answers

Yes Zion the 3 pictures are maybe from you (i take them from another threat)
The first is taken with my CLD-R7G and a very cheap capture card (conexant)

As I said, I am a little disappointed by the hue of this set because i havent the "issue" with others random movies on the same player.
However I obtains excellent results if a tweak hue of my capture card.

But strange for a "THX" set.

Exemple with correction (maybe a little too much)

Ah, the R7G is a very good player. Has a lot of the same technology as the HLD-X0 and X9 players. You can tell the detail is much better than my captures, which are from a CLD-V2600.

After comparing to the X0 capture, the hue is a little more blue in the Japanese version. Not by much, but it is noticable.

From my experience, you are probably better off capturing at the default capture settings and then color correcting afterward. Your example there is very good, though I'd say maybe a little too red and black level is a little too dark. Looks like you're on your way to having a great transfer though!
