James Earl Jones, voice of Darth Vader, dies aged 93 - from the BBC…
'James Earl Jones, the Hollywood actor and voice of Darth Vader, has died aged 93, his agent has said.
He died early on Monday morning surrounded by his family, agent Barry McPherson said.
Jones starred in dozens of films including Field of Dreams, Coming To America and Conan the Barbarian. He was best known for giving the Star Wars supervillain Darth Vader his distinctive gravelly voice.
Mark Hamill, who played Vader’s son Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, posted “RIP Dad” with a broken heart emoji as he shared a news report of the death.
He was also the voice of Mufasa in Disney’s 1994 film The Lion King, and CNN’s “This is CNN” tagline.
He won a host of awards including Emmys, Tony Awards, a Grammy and an honorary Oscar.’

I was going to post this sad news in ‘Original Trilogy news & articles thread: online write-ups on the OT films, cast and crew’ - but thought it deserved its own thread. RIP James Earl Jones - thank you for some wonderful memories (not just in Star Wars).
A decent celebration of the man: ‘James Earl Jones - A Tribute’ - a 7 minute video from the CineVore youtube channel.

Oof, wasn’t ready for this one. You know the term “iconic” gets bandied about too much when using it for someone like James Earl Jones actually seems a little trite. His was a legendary voice and an absolutely towering screen presence, as well as a life very well lived. I salute you, Mr. Jones. Now it’s your turn to become more powerful than we can possibly imagine.
Very sad news to hear. Underrated actor with a voice and presence that immediately captivated you. He will be missed. RIP.
RIP
His legacy will live on …
Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

RIP to a screen legend. Hope nothing ghoulish is done with his recordings as Vader after this…

I think they already stopped using his voice after Rogue One. In Rogue One, James Earl Jones definitely sounded different than the OT, which is what happens after almost 40 years. In later Disney+ shows with Vader, I think they used a synthetic voice using AI software.
Anyway, the man was a legend and he lived a long, extraordinary life.
An actor who brought class to the screen, whatever role he was in. He’ll be missed.
May his memory be for a blessing
I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.
Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.
My movie reviews aren’t AI, they’re just written by someone who’s Neurodivergent. If you don’t like them, then simply don’t read them.
R.I.P. He was one of my favorites. The world is a much lesser place without that magnificent voice of his. Obviously I love his work as the voice of Darth Vader, one of my favorite characters in fiction let alone Star Wars, but there’s plenty of other movies I’ll remember him for. The Lion King, Coming to America, Conan the Barbarian, Field of Dreams, The Sandlot, The Hunt for Red October, Quantum Quest: A Cassini Space Odyssey. He made his film debut in Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove, that’s already an impressive thing to have on your resume. He had a very long and prosperous career in film and onstage and I’ll never forget him.
All his life has he looked away… to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph!
