I don't know which version of the slipcase I like best.

I may stick on the two very first ones, with a slightly smaller Executor ship (in a way it is just a bit longer than the logo).

That black and white group photo would also make a nice, very unique cover, especially as just about every release of the ESB soundtrack in the past has been very dark.

You just rode my thoughts ! ;)

... But I must admit I don't care much for that font you are using for text. Still, I can't wait to see where you are going to take this project next!

This font is more a convenience for me. I tried many and it's hard to find a typo that fit with SW or mostly ESB (and don't want to use the SW font that belongs to the logo). Just I have to go deeper in finding the right spaces and sizes I think.

Both SE and Anthology use a bankgothic style font, and I ve seen it enough.

For inside text and Backcover titles I use a very simple font (Lucida style).

I like that one.  Nice to see the old McQuarrie paintings in a new project.

They're all looking good!  Of course I'm partial to #2 in this reply.  McQuarrie art is always welcome (I wonder what that cover looks like with an angled logo).  And I think #3 would be a great choice for the insert.

Any work on the liner notes yet?

#2 Looks more like a book cover to me.

McQuarrie art is always welcome (I wonder what that cover looks like with an angled logo).

It would work but with some changes (another cropping of the bg painting notably). Everything can work, so better start from an idea than sketching all that crosses your mind... That's my thought.

Any work on the liner notes yet?

I'm all concentrated on the sound by now. It's on the end and it's somehow the time for Truth !

The official Album art looks best I think, but you should use the Imperial prison of Alderaan artwork for your upcoming STAR WARS restoration album;) you know you will have to do an improved one, it's inevitable (using Jedi mind trick on you) :)

Actually, I'm quite happy with the sound of Star Wars as it is already.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Oh yeah, but I'll finish it in a few years. But I already did it once, mmmhh ?

Yes, the RSO LP art is very fitting IMO.

Yeah, I like both the SE and your previous effort with it;) I wasn't so serious about it, but with the experience you have now and your recent wonders with Empire it could possibly be even better. But is it really worth it? I don't know... but for the time being, I will enjoy this fantastic Empire restoration!

Less than a half was from the SE. But I really compared for this one and indeed a few tracks were better to be taken from the SE.

Now that I know that the Antho is a film mix and the SE a repix of the 24 tracks, + the RSO the 24 tracks mix for soundtrack... It needs a new reading.

I wasn't so serious about it, but with the experience you have now and your recent wonders with Empire it could possibly be even better. But is it really worth it?

It require a very attentive listening, because some mixes are more interesting / or dynamic / or better done than others on each release (and some are missed, notably on the RSO, as stated by the infos you gave me, while other tracks sound exceptional). A judicious compilation and restoration could be "audiophile". But it would cost me too much now. That's a lot of work (btw, I have a thread for this project... Just so you know. lol)

(Edit)... Oh and the SW sound salvage version was only a first step, I mean these tracks were somehow a first mixing. I didn't go further thinking it sounded good enough at the time :)

Oh, a little misunderstanding, what I wanted to say is that I'm pretty happy with both the SE and your previous effort with the Star Wars Score in the form of the Sound Salvage. Sorry, I will not derail this thread any further. ;)

Obviously, an authentic Empire release must have this as main cover... Then: the main cover, on its way to final ?

Ahh.... Now that's what I'm talking about!  The rush of nostalgia is overpowering.... :)

Of course, you'll need this for the back cover, right? (With appropriate track listing) ;)

I want the cover to be the simplest as possible. I would prefer the style A or B posters but they are too talkative... The score is rich enough and doesn't need them as covers.

It doesn't change my idea for the sleeves. Now if you check at the previous page, I slightly prefer my "reconstitution" of the one you just posted... Notably the colors.

Anyway, I'm not too much involved with this work these time. The finishing of the sound is too hot.

:) Classic promo picture! I knew you would love it, if not on the cover, maybe you could place it on the page in the booklet where the "Asteroid Field" track is.

Too late... as you can see in the very first pictures I posted. No way that I change it. But I'll find something, don't worry ;)

The artwork you've created looks marvellous!!

"The Empire strikes back" is a story about the power of the Empire, represented by star destroyers and AT-ATs. As it is brutal and simple (like the cue "battle in the snow") too many elements on a poster distract from that power. However the score has a variety of themes: Theme's for Darth Vader, the Force, Yoda, Han Solo and the Princess.

Variety or simplicity? I would choose the latter, less is more.

*This Revisited Edition is now the ultimate power in the universe. I suggest we watch it!*

The second one has different type for the titles and is inspired from the good old releases. Modern or classic...

I like them both. Either way, I think you get the retro across nicely in the pictures.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Thanks. Actually it's fixed: the "modern" one was only too big. I keep it... And I think you're right :)

Besides the contrast with the retro type left and the modern one works as well as the contrasting worlds and technologies in the film. Not to be intellectualized of course, just it came to my mind while replying.

I know you have already made up your mind about which font to use, but I actually prefer the (classic) font on the bottom one. Anyway, the presentation looking good, I like the way you're using the artwork.

I only tried on the ones I've posted since now. It deserves to be tried on many and I'll try both types on all the pages (thanks to your input).

I may be very influencable on that matter, and even wonder about the use of this modern type on the covers.

Edit: Mmmmhhh, more lisible indeed...
