Hey everyone, as the title says, I’m working on my very first fan edit. I’m calling it King Kong - The Streamlined Edition. I really like this movie, but I want to make it even better. My goal is to get it under 3 hours, improve the pacing, and cut out some unnecessary scenes. Below is a full list changes that I’m going to make:
There are two different versions of the edit. A color version and a black and white version
Removed the musical number at the beginning
Removed all of the early scenes with Ann to improve the pacing. Film now opens with Carl Denham in the meeting with the other studio executives
Removed the cringe “boobies” exchange
Trimmed the conversation in the taxi
We see first see Ann when Carl first sees her
Removed the “size 4” misunderstanding in their dinner scene
Removed the sequence of Jack trying to get off the ship
Removed Jack stepping in shit in the scene with Choy
Removed Jimmy showing Hayes the book
Removed Bruce Baxter reacting to the “artwork” on his posters
Removed the typewriter sequence in the ship between Carl and Jack
Slightly shortened the conversation between Ann and Jack in the hallway of the ship. Scene ends with Jack saying, “you don’t have to be nervous.”
Shortened Jimmy, Hayes, and Lumpy confronting Carl. Scene ends with the line “monsters belong in B movies”
Removed extra scenes while still on the ship (Jack writing, Jack and Ann kissing, Ann and Jimmy dancing, etc.)
Removed Englehorn telling Call that there is a warrant out for him. He does not try to turn the ship around.
Slightly shortened the reaction shots of everyone in the fog
Removed the “not giving a damn about Carl Denham” and “we’re leaving Mr. Hayes” lines from Englehorn
Trimmed the attack from the natives
Trimmed the sequence where Ann is taken
Trimmed the native’s sacrifice ceremony
Removed Hayes’ reluctance to let Jimmy go on the rescue
Trimmed Kong manhandling Ann
Trimmed the dinosaur stampede
Removed the sequence of Ann performing to entertain Kong. In this cut, she actually manages to sneak away.
Removed the brief scene where Ann yells “Over here!”
Trimmed the sunset scene with Ann and Kong
Lightly trimmed the final confrontation with Kong on Skull Island
Trimmed the sequence in New York before Kong breaks out
Trimmed Kong reuniting with Ann
Shortened the frozen lake scene
Shortened Ann and Kong’s last few moments before the final battle
Removed the sequence of Ann nearly falling off of the ladder
Removed Ann saying “No!” in the final battle
Removed the “it’s just a dumb animal” line
