Feedback Wanted: Is re-editing TPM with a 1080 HD file worth it?

I’ve just finished editing The Phantom Menace for the second time, and I just realized that it would be really good idea to burn it to a DVD. Since I’m using a 720 resolution file, I’m wondering if it would be worth it to re-edit the movie again for better quality picture?

No offense, kid, but I don’t think you know how to boil water.

Wouldn’t matter if you’re burning it to a DVD-R anyway. But the question would of course arise, why is your only version of the film 720p?

Alternatively: Is it just me or have people been using the term DVD and BD interchangeably over the past few days? Is this some thing with the youths where they just call all of the old people’s non-streaming formats on the shiny discs “DVDs”?

I glued a BD and DVD back to back to see if I could get more capacity out of a flipper disc. Results still pending.

When I torrented it, the file said 1080 (they lied) but it turned out to only be 720

No offense, kid, but I don’t think you know how to boil water.

No offense, kid, but I don’t think you know how to boil water.

When I …

That’s what I was alluding to. This is not welcome here.

Tie them together with a parcel string, that’s much better for the environment.

Ceci n’est pas une signature.

The string will get caught in the gears of the player, player.

I have been toying with the idea of scaling down 1080 material exactly 2× and cropping to SD in anamorphic widescreen for DVD.
With the source material being 2.35:1 (1920×818), the result would be 2.09:1 (854×409 upscaled).

Yes, that would be pan-and-scan with image lost on the left and right side, but the advantages would be:

  • Scaling with an integer factor would retain the most image quality from the source.
  • You would fill 12% more of the 16:9 screen.

I’m not a pirate. I own the movies on Blu-ray, but I just don’t have the software to get the movie from the disc to a file format usable by iMovie.
