Is it Worth it? Definitive Edition Star Wars trilogy laserdisc box set on ebay

I won the “Definitive Edition,” Star Wars trilogy laserdisc box set that was released around 1992 in an auction on Ebay. The final price for the set was $193 dollars. The seller is being a bit of a pain, sending me one too many emails and promising to sell the item to the second chance bidder if payment isn’t received by Friday. Add to that that I’m currently in an auction on Ebay bidding for a laserdisc/dvd combo player that ends at noon today, an auction that will most likely set me back another $230 dollars.

So the question is: is all this worth it just to see the unaltered original trilogy?

Look around in the Original Trilogy Preservation section of this board and you'll be able to get DVD transfers of this laserdisc set for next to nothing, or better yet, nothing at all. You'll find a nice guy named Rikter who will be able to help you out if you can't do the Bit Torrent downloads. And in many cases, these DVD transfers look significantly better than their laserdisc source.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

How do you download bit torrent files?

Clipped from the OT Preservation board.

Yes, indeed you need a torrent client to download torrents. Here's some of them:
BitTornado
Azureus
BitSpirit
BitTorrent (client)
ABC
I personally prefer BitSpirit amongst the above, and I would most definatelly recomend it.

After you've downloaded and installed a bitTorent client, all you have to do is find the tracker (web site) that offers the stuff you are intersted in (for SW stuff, www.myspleen.net is an excelent tracker), and sign in that tracker. The reason you are requested to sign in, is bacause each tracker keeps track of your upload/download activity, and gives special privileges to uploaders, as to avoid leeching, which is the main problem on peer to peer file sharing.

If you have found the tracker and the torrent you are intrested in, then you are prompted to download a small .torrent file. This file contains all the information needed for downloading the torrent. If you run this file, your installed BitTorrent client will start, and so will your download.
Hope this was helpfull, happy downloading

I really do encourage you, though, to browse around that board and familiarize yourself with the several different versions out there of the OT and pick the one you think is best. Personally, I prefer the EditDroid collection, which you'll learn about once you get on over there.

Well, it's not too difficult, but expect your download to take between a few days to a week - and that's if you are on broadband.

Even if I didn't make the transfers, I love having an LD player and the SW sets.

I decided to tell the seller to f*** off and I canceled my bid on the ld player.

Now I need to see Editdroid about getting a copy of his masterpiece.

I love great eBay transactions, don't you?

It was YOU you bastard.

Just kidding - despite violating E-bay's policies (more than likely) you probably did, at least, the financially right thing.

But seriously, if you can, drop a couple of bucks through Paypal or something to the folks who actually took the time and effort to preserve the Star Wars we all know and love. If the Editdroid crew would stop being so mysterious I'd be willing to send 'em a few bucks as way of thanks...but I know they're a little iffy about their identities so...

For good reason. The Editdroid system, later sold off to Avid, was created by LFL. At face value, that means these guys are pretty high up in the organization. I'd keep my identity secret as well.

Absolutely - couldn't agree with you more. I just wish I could pass along a great deal of thanks considering that it took them countless hours to produce and it takes 24 hours to download.
