Interstellar IMAX frame

I recently got a flatbed film scanner for my photography, and remembered this. One day I was at a swimming pool, when I found an IMAX frame from Interstellar laying on the locker room floor. I decided to use it to test my scanner’s ability to capture medium format color film, and it doesn’t look half bad. The final scan is around 130 megapixels, and really highlights the damage. This was one of the sections of the film shot in 35mm, so it won’t have the full IMAX resolution, by I think it’s neat anyway.

You found this at a swimming pool? Crazy 😃 Of all the things for people to leave lying around; car keys, gym bags, IMAX film frames… heh. I noticed the sprocket holes are top and bottom… is that an IMAX thing? I’m not that knowledgeable about modern film prints.

Bizarre find, right? And yeah, IMAX runs horizontally. It’s the same film as standard 70mm, but by running it horizontally they get substantially more resolution out of it.
