Info/Help Wanted: Nickelodeon (1976), Director's Cut Rare Find?

Howdy!

If this isn’t correct, please disregard/delete, I’m new here.

I’ve been hunting for Peter Bogdonovich’s Nickelodeon (1976), the director’s cut with the extra run-time length and it being his preferred Black-and-White, but I’ve had absolutely no luck. I’ve noticed that the film has very limited ability, and the DVD/Blu-Ray copies are foreign and obscenely high (never mind, unlikely to be the Director’s), and there are select PVOD services like Vudu, Google Play in the US that have the colour version on-sale for far more than it would usually be, and I do live elsewhere.

I’ve discovered that the Director’s Cut has aired on (long live) TCM in recent years, and there is a modern VHS taping of the B/W on Archive (I’m not sure if I’m able to share here?) that also features a frail Bogdonovich at the end, but the quality is as expected with a VHS recording.

TLDR; I’m looking for Nickelodeon (1976) Director’s Cut, and I’m not sure if anyone has a restoration project they’ve worked on with it, or are aware of any?

Thanks!

I’m going to bump this; I find it odd that such a remarkable filmmaker has a film with Oscar-winners in the cast just disregarded. I don’t mind the color version, but not as he intended.

ISO: any projects, past or present, about the b/w “Director’s Cut” of Nickelodeon (1976).

You’re correct, Sony released a duo DVD in 2009, which featured Nickelodeon (both cuts), with The Last Picture Show, but;
· I’m unable to source the DVD version.
· The reviews have said that the sound and video for Nickelodeon, especially the Director’s Cut, fades and isn’t very good, especially being a late 00s DVD.

I’m wondering whether the version shown on TCM during the Celebration, of which someone has an aesthetic heavy VHS recording of, is actually the same print that is used for that DVD release, or whether it’s a better quality version.

I’m absolutely understanding that it’s not one of his most famous, or best works, despite how much I love it. But I truly wish there was a HD, even 1080p, of the Director’s Cut somewhere, or the likes of Criterion would’ve done it.

The DVD is available on Ebay for $25.52 US right now.
The color version is available on Amazon Prime in 1080p.
The HD color version could be converted to B&W and upconverted scenes from the DVD edited in.
I’m not sure how not living in the U.S. would affect you.

This is sort of what I was thinking, tbh.

That would be the best way of getting a HD version of it, correct. That’s likely what I’ll go with, sans other options (very doubtful someone else recorded it on Turner and is also a member of here).

Also; the eBay listing wouldn’t be able to be posted, but of course, there’s ways round this.
