Anyone seen it? I was rolling. Quite funny and different...an asian Tarantino-esque type movie. Definitely worth seeing.

I've seen it a couple of months ago, and I posted about it back then. Can't seem to find the thread...

Tarantino-esque? Not at all! It's the opposite of what Tarantino does, it's a light hearted fun movie. It's not really a kung fu film per se, and the special effects are somewhat cheap substitutes for real Kung Fu (as I've discussed in the other thread), but it's an OK film. Not as good as Stephen Chow's previous film, Shaolin Soccer, but...

All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

If you're referring to Tarantino's tendency for dialogue-heavy scenes, then I'd agree, but the action is another story; of course the action of KFH is very similar to Kill Bill Vol. I, which in turn was inspired by the Shaw Bros. movies out of Hong Kong. If someone only has the limited frame of reference that comes from not having seen much in the way of Hong Kong action flicks, it's easy to describe the action in this film as "Tarantino-esque".

Only JediSage or Jay can tell me that I'm not allowed to post here!! I will not be silenced!

Actually, I want to see KFH, but I don't think it's playing locally.

That's a shame; it's good fun.

My county of about 60,000 is getting a ten screen theatre finally later this year.

Until then we have to drive to another town 30 miles away. Which means I have to wait for the weekend to see movies that aren't playing here.

I should clarify: What I meant by Tarantino-esque was the visual style, especially in the beginning during the dance routine. Also, did you all see Kill Bill? Much of the fighting, especially with the axes was reminiscient of it; at least for me.

OK but those were merely 60 seconds on a 90 minute movie. The movie is lighthearted, with a comic farse feeling on it, almost cartoonish, it's absolutely the opposite of a Tarantino movie like, let's say, Resevoir Dogs.

Kill Bill = consuming lunacy. Hardly like Tarantino's other films.

Hey ric...

what we talked about a bit back (too much studio involvment with Chow) looks to be coming true:

from Comingsoon.Net

"Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group is developing a sequel to Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Columbia Pictures Film Production Asia managing director Barbara Robinson said Chow and his writing team from "Hustle," including Tsang Kan Cheong, have been writing a draft in the evenings while on the road for the 30-country Sony Pictures Releasing International rollout of the film.

The studio plans to begin shooting the "Hustle" before the end of the year somewhere in China."

When will Hollywood learn they must leave Hong Kong alone! HK made better action films for like, 30 years, and now Hollywood wants to copy it and destroy it!
