Hi there and welcome to the OT.com forum.

I am sure that once the US wakes up, you will be flooded with requests.

Out of interest, which, if any, Star Wars LD's do you already have?

I have the trilogy box and the single disc's. Both I think US release, one is the black box (without book) the other are separate disc's.

The black trilogy box set is the Definitive Collection. The individual discs you have could be the Special Widescreen Edition or any of the Pan and Scan " time compressed" or standard time releases. The easiest site to find what you have is http://www.blam1.com/StarWars/

If you do have the Special Widescreen Edition as well as the Definitive Collection, I am sure there would be huge interest in an X9 transfer or two. There is also a possible project to get "ripped" audio from the Special Widescreen Edition and Empire Strikes Back is still on the wanted list.

If you want to know more specifically, check the 'Reference' number with your actual discs.  Some releases had more then one pressing which is more easily sorted out by reference number.

Hello there, hiephoi. Welcome to ot.com. As said before, an X9 should be able to produce extraordinary results. As far as I know, Arnie. d already captured the JSC on an X9 but no one has taken him up on the offer of finalizing it.

However, the Special Widescreen Edition Trilogy has yet to be captured on such a machine. They were individual releases that preceded the Definitive Collection, which seems to be the trilogy box you describe. The SWE trilogy used an alternate master; msycamore recently preserved ANH but not on an X9. Unfortunately, the Definitive Collection really isn't of interest in being preserved because the GOUT DVD uses the master of it.

The lddb is really a good way to find out what you have. The individual releases could be the 1995 releases, which have Faces on the cover, or the Special Widescreen Edition, which have movie posters on the cover.

The Special Widescreen Edition Trilogy... And why not THX 1138... I know there's a big effort to restore the original theatrical edition, but they used a DVD recorder to capture the video.

Also, if I had a better computer I'd be all over Arnie.D's transfers!

Another movie that would be worth transfering on the X9 is "Dracula 1979".  As far as I know, a version with fully-saturated colors is still not available on DVD. I made a transfer using a cheap panasonic laserdisc, but an X9 would make a significantly better transfer.

Dracula '79: another film shot by Gil Taylor that's had its colors screwed up on re-releases...:)

The theatrical cut of the phantom menace on the japan laserdisc, i know how much people hate the prequels and i am no exception.  But a nice Laserdisc capture instead of a recreation would be a good preservation.

Especially for the full bitrate pcm stereo audio.

The special edition 1997 discs with full bitrate PCM would also be nice as niether of these NTSC discs has been done with an anamorphic conversion as well as ivtc. Proper DVD frame speed Etc.

What has been done is captures of the AC3, In Adywan's reconstruction of phantom menace, and in the case of the special editions i believe Darth Editous, and some others have captured those.

This kind of possibilities is the reason I keep checking this site. I am also Dutch. I have got the definitive collection on laserdisc. This might be an option to combine different copy's of the definitive collection, to one superior digital copy. And being already in the Netherlands I might even be able to drop of the disc's personally.

I also have some non-Star Wars laserdiscs that might be interesting to capture. One of them is the CAV letterbox edition of the Lion King. This version is without the alterations that are on the dvd and blu-ray release. It does also have some great extra's, that are (as far as I know) never released on other media. One of them is the documentairy, 'The Making of the Lion King'.

A new release of Star Wars is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.

Yeah, there's plenty of Disney LDs crying out to be preserved properly. Beauty and the Beast CAV, Aladdin CAV, the REAL Academy ratio version of Lady and the Tramp, various deluxe CAV sets of the classic films (with some extras that still haven't shown up on DVD or Blu-ray), perhaps even an X9 capture of Song of the South.

Molly has been working on a Disney LD preservation project but it hasn't seem to have gotten very far as of late...

I have a few nice laserdisc editions, but not the special version of SW. Only the 2 versions described above. (black box and the discs with faces)

I also have some Muse (Hi-Vision) disc's. They are nice also. And some squeeze versions.

Well, if there are requests I will look in the collection.

I have a copy of the Japan LD pressing of Phantom Menace and I'd certainly like to see it preserved properly....with the high bitrate PCM audio and high bitrate video quality...it would certainly look nicer than a VHS transfer of the Theatrical version.  I'd be willing to send mine out to you if you'd consider doing it.

Cheers!!!!

It also has one of the seriously creepiest scenes in all of movie history... when the guy meets his vampire daughter in the sewer.  One of the few scenes I have avoided watching again.

So true!

I first saw the movie on cable TV in 1980 or so (my Mom's friend had HBO back in the early days) and that one scene freaked me out so bad I was afraid to sleep with the lights out for several days, at least. I think it was the solid-black eyeballs that did it. :-P

Yeah, that was truly frightening. I definitely think I was too young to have seen the movie at that time- clearly my Mother should have paid more attention to the "R" rating! (BTW-Is it true that the director deliberately undersaturated the colors for the DVD release?)

I also saw "Magic" w/Anthony Hopkins around the same time- another film that I probably shouldn't have seen. :-P

As far as the X9 goes- it would definitely be great for films that have otherwise-unreleased versions on LD, but wasn't it proven in the X0 thread that SW-on-LD sucks compared to the Gout? It was a while ago, but I remember some pretty disappointing-looking clips.

Well, got some requests for other LD movies also, but time is not one of the things I have to much at the moment! :)

So no rips of Lion Kings etc at the moment.

Found a CAV star wars disc (only half of the movie...)  in my junk stack :) Something for the weekend!

Yes and no.

The GOUT does have more horizontal detail, but every single LD (and even the VHS sets) has more vertical detail.

Not to mention there are DVNR-free pre-THX LDs, but I guess a lot of people find the GOUT to be perfectly watchable.

Does anybody here have a LD of the original Ewok movies ?
