I was going through my old VHS tapes and came across Star Wars, taped in 1984 on CBS. Has commercials and everything. The recording starts when Luke gets the Droids. Could this help anyone?

Is this the one where Mark Hamil is hosting and has segments in between comercial breaks? If so, I'm interested.

If possible, could you check out the Luke macrobinocular shot just as he gets attacked by the Tusken Raider.

I have some screenshots here of various UK/US tapes/laserdiscs including an early mono UK broadcast and this shot changes for different versions. How does this version compare.

Also, is it the mono version?? ie does it have the C3PO tractor beam line or the "Close the blast doors" line which were on the mono version. The early 80's UK broadcast was the mono version.

I think my friend also has a copy of this showing but they said it wasn't complete

My copy starts right when Luke meets the Droids. From that point on, it's complete.

*BUMP* Does no one else have interest in this tape? I'd be willing to do any sort of thing to help get this project off the ground. I've never done any sort of video work before but I have a digital video camera and I think a decent computer [Athlon 64 3200+ and 1 gig of RAM.] If no one else is interested I would be interested in attempting a transfer.

I am with you on this.

Even with an incomplete film like this I would like to see if it is the same cut or different to the original LaserDisc, VHS and UK TV version. They are all different.

Russ did you ever consider writing something about all the different versions and posting it, or including it on a dvd release like starkiller did?

Does anybody here have the two versions of the trilogy as shown on SCI-FI network back in the day when it was a pay channel?

One was hosted BY Carrie Fisher and the other Mr. Billy Dee Williams.

The first t.v. broadcast had Mark Hamill, I think. on regular t.v.

Does anybody have the versions shown on Home Box Office or better known as HBO. I remember that there was something different in Return of the Jedi when I first saw it there.

A great project might be a "hosted Star Wars" with one DVD with a choice of the clips that were shown at commercial breaks of the '84 TV airing with Mark Hamill, and the two Sci-Fi Channel airings. Did Sci-fi just do the first film, or the entire trilogy?

I have the Billy Dee Williams-hosted broadcast on tape. They did the whole trilogy. The tapes are pretty old, and in SLP, but I could make a DVD out of the host segments this summer.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I am still interested in seeing this in full to see if it is an existing or different cut of the film........

I have a VHS recording of Star Wars when it was shown in 1985, I think, with the introduction by Mark Hamill. This was my copy of Star Wars that I had most of my childhood. I still think that when I get the hardware to do it, I'm going to capture it onto DVD for memories sake, being the version I grew up with. Didn't record any commercials, though.

.........have you thought any more about doing that??

The "hosted Star Wars" idea sounds pretty cool too.

Wow. I just came here and didn't realize my Thread was still going. I have the ability to record this on my PC through my ATI TV Wonder Pro card. In various formats. Someone familiar with this capture card could help me with format settings. But realize it would be a VHS Transfer.
