Info & Idea: Repo Man (1980's) - The TBS preservation?

Okay, when I was a kid I wasn’t lucky enough to have cable, but I remember my friends telling me about this hilarious movie called “Repo Man” that was weird as all get out, and was also dubbed to bowlderize the profanity (like many movies of the day), resulting in hilarious lines like “FLIP YOU!” and people being called “Nerrds” and “melonfarmers.”

I thought my chances of seeing and hearing this movie in its “original” glory were gone for good and then I read this:

I guess there’s a lot of scenes that were shown on TV that aren’t on the official DVD.

Somebody remembers! So I wonder if anybody out there can find a tape and encode it to preserve this masterpiece of awful, hacked up cable TV greatness?

I am sure the UK BD lacks US TV censorship redubs.

I think such redubs are.. very funny.. german TV Stations just would cut such scenes, like they cut violence...

The tv version is an extra on the Blu Ray.

Oh.. you are completely right. I thought it was just an alternate cut, like "normal" alternate cuts for television.

But is it dub censored?

Are there region free BD players yet?

My understanding is that it is the "melonfarmer" dub.

There are region free players out there. You probably won't find them at your local store though.

This reminds me, I need to figure out where my TV version of Loaded Weapon 1 is.

It doesn't help that I never labelled the VHS =|

Man, I might just get the blu-ray then, if it's on there. Awesome, thanks for the help!

Somebody should rip the audio from these "censored" versions and post them someplace... just sayin' :)

I bought and watched the Repo Man blu ray a few weeks ago and the t.v. cut is really something special. At certain points during the movie the screen goes black for a second, this is from when it was shown on t.v. the adverts would be screened at this point and it almost makes you feel like its a home made recording.  Although there is a huge difference in picture quality between the official version and the t.v. cut. If anyone wants anything checked out from the movie ill scan through it and check it out when i get the time.

As the tv version has extra scenes in it, it's a bit more complicated than merely synching up the audio to the theatrical cut.

would it be possible to pillerbox the missing scenes not on the dvd and do a composite?

"Changing classic movies at all is just wrong." Puggo

"HA, Ha, you r ghey" was probably a hilariously insulting comment in Elementary and Middle School, but its not cooly insulting anymore and its certainly not funny: it makes people who say it look like, well, an "inbred monkey." TheSessler

"I'm still %20 the wiser. It amused me that after doing a google image search for "The Final Milf" the second picture is Roger Delgado followed by lots and lots of porn." Bingowings

It's possible the movie was shot open matte though.
