Info: Would it Be Good? An Official Release of the unaltered Original Trilogy on DVD?

I’m not even sure I would want a Offical Release of the Original Trilogy on DVD. Before you blast me, let me explain. When I pop in my Dr. Gonzo set, the picture quality and audio quality are what they would be if they were released in the 80’s. That in itself brings back childhood memories. If you take the New DVD set, with the better picture quality and audio and take out the new footage and just leave it the way it was, it still doesn’t seem like watching the Original Trilogy. And we all know there is NO WAY that Lucas would ever release the Original Trilogy without a Clean-Up. So Dr. Gonzo, thank you for giving us something that will NEVER be made.

It’s Not the Years, It’s the Mileage.

I think I agree. The only way I can go back and time and view the original is to watch a grainy bootleg copy of the mono-mix. Even the laserdisc transfers only take me to all the VHS and TV viewings I had as a kid.

I've actually said this a couple of times. Lucas just can't deliver, That's what we're here for.

Lucas could just take one of the transfers and release that as the official OOT.

I sometimes wonder how many of the Lucasfilm employees have copies of one of the LD transfers that they watch instead of the official dvds. maybe Lucas' own kids have copies that they keep hidden away under their mattress, right next to the Playboy magazines they dont want their dad to know about

Why Anakin really turned to the dark side:
"Anakin, You're father I am" - Yoda
"No. No. That's not true! That's impossible!" - Anakin

Sounds like a Star Wars fan to me.

Unfortunately with high def DVD's just over the hill, the best OT that exists is on Laserdisc. Someone had better start thinking of an uprez.... it's gonna look terrible in 1080p! But it will be honest and historical.

Someday, I really believe, there will be a release of the original OT. Like a criterior collection. 20 years? 30? ugh. A reverse of today's trends in director's cuts.

Unfortunately, we've seen Lucas' "director's cut" already...twice, even.

My guess is that fan editions are the best we'll ever get. The image tweaking on the 2004 DVDs means they just don't look like Star Wars anymore, even where there is no SE CGI addition. Any official OT release (which let's face it, won't happen) would still have this major problem.

Well actually (from an impression I got from watching the George Lucas documentary) I think the kids run his house. He even said that he wanted to adopt another girl however, the girls wanted a brother. If those kids can make him get a son instead of a daughter, then I think, they can make him do anything. Heck who knows, it might have been them that wanted special editions in the first place.

Anyways, I think that we'll only know how good an official release would be if there was an official release.

If Lucas released the original trilogy in as perfect condition as we all wanted, wouldn't we all be happy as well as disappointed? we'd get the DVDs we always wanted but have nothing left to do, no more messing about with getting the perfect laserdisc capture with the perfect sound mix etc.

My original memory of Star Wars is the ones we taped in the late 80's. I mean - the picture was squished inwards to get more of the widescreen image in (I always wondered why the moons of Tatooine were oval instead of round). Even now if I watch the DVD, I still expect the Rebel theme and the "STAR WARS - CHANNEL NINE" thing with the picture of Luke in the gunner seat to come up.

Can you believe, I didn't see 'look sir, droids' till I was 9 and the old old trilogy was released for the last time on VHS.

I'd go back to those really old copies, but guess what? My brother lent them to his kids. They got a scissor treatment when jammed in a VCR. I could have cried, those tapes were very precious.
VADER: Let me look on you with my own eyes...

LUKE: Dad, where are your eyebrows?
