Info Wanted: who no UK PAL LaserDisc Version for a DVD transfer? — Page 2

Nice graphic! If only it weren't so accurate...

There's no way an X0 can do PAL, so it'd be hard to give the 'X0' label to anything PAL, wouldn't it?

I suspect there will be less difference between the X0 Project and anything PAL than people imagine there will be, and the X0 Project should have the advantage when it comes to noise.

In the meantime, I'm downloading Moth3r's versions, just like any sane individual should be!

A possible PAL transfer has been mentioned here though and depended on a PAL player being modified. I think they found the manuals, but nothing has been mentioned success-wise yet.

Ooh, a laserdisc. The Cheat's playin' something on a laserdisc.
Everything is better on a laserdisc. Whatever happened to the laserdisc? Laserdisc!

Modified how? To play an NTSC disc as PAL? Because I can't imagine how you'd do that. But it is theoretically possible (albeit very difficult) to take the X0 transfer and reconstruct it as PAL.

Is the source for X0 anamorphic, and if not, will it be interpolated up to anamorphic resolution?

While there are a handful of "squeeze" LDs, I don't think SW was one (or three). So I don't see how the X0 source could be anamorphic.

Sounds like the jury's still out. If it were up to me, I'd upsample. But there are decent arguments as to why you wouldn't.

It's not a theory, I've "PAL"'d a few NTSC film laserdiscs and it's a relatively simple process after capturing; undo the 3:2 pulldown, rescale to PAL resolution, set the video playback speed to 25fps, speedup the audio to match.

No, it was nothing to do with NTSC, they wanted to modify a PAL player (the Pioneer CLD-D925 if I remember correctly, the same player Moth3r used for his transfer) so they could receive a better image from the PAL source discs. I think the plan was to bypass a certain filter before certain problems were introduced.

I really should just read back instead of doing all this 'guessing'!

[edit]Well, I can now confirm it was the D925 that they were thinking of modifying, but since the forum search function is useless here I can't find the posts where Laserman and Moth3r were discussing it.[/edit]

[edit2]Still haven't found those posts (in which Laserman tells Moth3r to keep his player), but I believe it is the 3-line 2D comb filter that was to be bypassed to reduce dot crawl. At least this is what I've gathered from Karyudo's posts on the topic as he has the same player.[/edit2]

I believe they are converting the regular 30fps NTSC material to 24fps video for the X0 project. In that respect, it will be possible to play these films in their intended speeds.

But why are we talking about this here? Go to the X0 forum!
