Democracy strikes back : Star Wars help youth and intellectuals to meet and talk fot democracy

A few days before the release of Episode VII of Star Wars, on 11th and 14th December, youth, social workers, psychoanalysts and intellectuals meet in Saint-Denis (France) and at the Paris’s fourth arrondissement city hall, to talk about democracy, around Star Wars myth.

Why do we love Star Wars ? How can switch from democracy to totalitarianism ? What is the road from obscurantism to the light ? Is there a road from fear to love ?

Blandine Kriegel, Philosophy professor, Gilles Vervisch, philosopher and author of La Philo Contre-attaque [Philosophy strikes back], Arthur Leroy, psychologist and author of Psychanalyse d’une saga [Psychoanalysis of a saga], Hugues Paris, psychoanalyst and author of Dark Vador un adolescent mélancolique [Darth Vader a melancholy teenager] and Sébastien Schweitzer and Mathieu Mondoloni, author of the series Generation Jedi on France Info, will share their visions of the myth created by George Lucas, and the forces they read in it, to give more strength to democracy. Both meetings are open to all audiences.

“With Star Wars, George Lucas counts us a human story, and illustrates how humans can be mobilized to overcome the steps that lead from anger to democracy,” said Henri Cohen Solal, psychoanalyst and president of the organization committee.
