Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows about the quality of the Making of Star Wars/SP FX The Empire Strikes Back laserdisc.

Also, are “Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi” and “From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga” available on laserdisc?

Thanks.

Yes.

The U.S. pressings of Making of Star Wars were plagued by laser rot. The degree varies from copy to copy. It takes an early gas-tube laserdisc player to get a good picture out of them. (Or an XO!) The Japanese pressings are probably better but there will be subtitles. Classic Creatures and Star Wars to Jedi only came out in Japan. Ebay is your best bet to find them these days.

Where were you in '77?

OK, thanks.

How is the quality of the Japanese discs?

Nice... IF you can get past the onscreen non removable subtitles (BTW all the making of LD's have been transfered to DVDr already )

who has the documentaries transferred from laserdisc to dvd?

I have them all

The first disc is sourced from the U.S. Laserdisc The Making of SW + SPFX of Empire and the second disc is sourced from the original U.S. VHS tapes (first releases) - Classic Creatures + From SW to Jedi the Making of a Saga (these are some of my first captures ever )

I also have the Dr. Gonzo transfers of the Japanese Laserdiscs (all for docs on two DVD's) of course they have the burned in subtitles but to be honest they look better then mine (except for the darn subtitles!!)

I'll be rereleasing all four of the Japanese documentaries (Dr.Gonzo's were from my source material) as individual titles shortly. I'm just deciding whether to transfer them to a DVD recorder or capture them via an ADVC 50 or 110 before encoding them with CCE. Does anyone have any experience with the Canopus products before I purchase one?

I have the 110 and the only thing I can really complain about is it kind of upsets the black levels (washes it to gray), but that's easily fixable.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I wonder if you could bring in the Japan transfers into Digital Fusion, mask out the subtitles and re-encode the vob? If I had these, I could try it at work sometime. Wait, when these are burned in you mean they're over the actual images and not on widescreen black. Hmm... that sucks.

I'm planning on doing something like that.

Is there any way of me possibly obtaining a copy of the first set (The one that's not Japansese)?

I could PiF to anyone else who wants it.
