Info Wanted: did anyone do Star Wars VHS Rips of the CBS Fox and THX "Heads"?

This may seem a little odd considering the inferior quality but I’m actually wondering if anybody has done rips of the old CBS Fox and THX “Heads” VHS tapes.  I mean if Puggo can give us the old 8mm versions, surely the VHS copies would be a staple too.

Particulairy I’m looking for ones that still have the previews and logos at the start of the video.  When I was a kid, seeing that CBS Fox logo at the start with the occompaniying fanfare was as much a part of the experience as the 20th Century Fox logo and when I popped in those THX versions years later, I did frequently watch the George Lucas/Leonard Maltin interviews before I got into the movie.

Actually, the VHS 1997 specials editions with the featurettes at the start would be nice too.

If anybody knows where I could locate these version I’d be very appreciative.

How are you with DVD authoring? I ask because it seems that the best option would be for you to take the introductory stuff you want and add it to the front of a superior transfer (e.g. DJ's V3) so you don't actually have to sit through a VHS quality copy of the film (which gets old fast!)

I recently did just that with the CBS-FOX part (which I can supply if you're interested) - the Maltin interviews are also around on some folks' extras discs (I did my own PAL transfers of these a while back which you're also welcome to if they're any use).

I do have DVD-Rs of the Faces VHS from 1995.  A friend taped them, the tapes were in very good shape.

I never finished uploading rips of them. :/ I really should.

I would be interested, if you could.

I could probably pull that off, if I could get the fresh rips.  I've only been able to find rips from Youtube, except for the Maltin interviews which I could pull from the extras disks.

What I'd probably do I think is put the 2 lead-ins on the DVD as extras that you could play on your own before the movie.  So I would need:

-CBS Fox collectors previews and CBS Fox logo lead-in.  I believe this might have been identical on all three tapes.

-The "heads" lead in with 3 Maltin interviews, the "one last time" trailer, and the THX "audience is now deaf" log.

I still have my "heads" VHS tapes and I can re-look at my brothers CBS Fox versions to see exactly what the lead ins where.

By "Heads" am I correct in guessing you mean "Faces"?

Those ones are well preserved like sarlaac's belly ~200 days is nothin'
That's full-screen 'face' box with Maltin interviews

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

It sounds like my CBS-FOX thing might be of limited help, then - I worked from the faces-era PAL tapes (the ones that came in the Executor tin) and they only had the straight CBS-FOX logo and the Maltin interviews. If there's more to be found, you might have to look further (such as the full rips posted above), but for what it's worth:

(There are two versions here, a muxed titleset - for use in vobblanker replacement - and the raw streams for use in an authoring program. These are NTSC format since I needed compatibility with the NTSC GOUT discs).
