Wow...that's kind of cool!
I don't know if there's any sort of plug in with after effects that could basically paste one face on top of another...but someone should look into it!
There are several thing about the PT Yoda that bug me...
-Simply doesn't look like it's in its actual space. Don't really know how else to explain it...part of it has to do with artificial CG lighting...
-While most of the animation is up to par with anything else you might see these days, it's not anywhere near what Oz did with the puppet! Yeah, yeah, the ears jiggle...but that's not enough!
Example: Yoda looks towards screen right. With a puppet, Oz had limited eye movment so that meant he had to also move the head and the entire body to look to the right...which meant there had to be slighty different staging for the scene...which means slighty different lighting...and so on. Everything adds up to an entirely different performance. If all you have to do to look towards screen right is move the mouse cursor a certain direction, you'll get a different performance.
-The voice. When Oz was simpy having to read a few lines into a mic and NOT be there on set and get his hands into the character of Yoda....well the voice acting did suffer. AND the actors suffered as well since all they had was someone reading lines off stage. They had noone to interact with.
OK, sorry. Done for now! ;)
