Info Wanted: Which are the Best Anamorphic DVD versions of OT?

(So, if this has been addressed already, forgive me and please point me in the right direction, not trying to break any forum rules.)

So, my best friend wants to introduce his little brother to Star Wars. He wants to take him to go see The Force Awakens while he’s up here on Christmas break, but he wants to show him the original trilogy first.

He’s looking for a DVD copy of the Original Trilogy. I’ve been looking into the different versions on this site, and been a built overwhelmed with all the choices (and the info on them not being the most up to date.)

What is the best version of the OT that I can find for him? Preferably Anamorphic, since he and I are both not fans of the letterbox style, like the GOUT discs. Also, this isn’t necessary, but if they would have disc and cover art, that would be amazing, since these are (hopefully) gonna be a Christmas present to his little brother.

Thanks so much in advance!

Honestly the Despecialized Editions downscaled to DVD would look best IMO – there isn’t enough detail in the GOUT to make a “DVD-quality” image, at least in terms of fine detail, so an HD-sourced project, after downscale, will look like a really nice professional DVD (if it’s done right…). There are some nasty re-encodes and downscales out there, though, so doing it yourself wouldn’t be a bad move if you’ve got the time and means. Otherwise, check the quality first before you gift-wrap it.
