Info Wanted: Which OT preservation is best for me - and whom should I contact?

Greetings, all!

I’ve only been a member of this site for about a month, and so far it’s been a bit difficult to locate someone who could provide me with an invite to obtain preservations of the OT.

I have the Special Wide Screen Edition Stereo Extended Play laserdiscs from 1989, the THX Widescreen Edition VHS boxed set (the all black one with Vader’s helmet on the front), and the Special Edition DVD’s with the OT’s on the Bonus disc so there’s no question as to my paid ownership of the films.

My TV is a Panasonic Tau that can display up to 1080i, but my DVD player is a Sony from 2000.  So I’m looking for the best preservation for this hardware setup.  I don’t need a 5.1 surround mix since I don’t have a surround system.  My neighbors in my apartment building don’t need to hear what I’m watching!  😃

Just a good stereo mix will do.  I’m researching Blu-Ray players for when Harmy is finished with his AVCHD versions, but I’d like to learn how to use Imgburn now so that I’ll have some experience for the future.

I’d very much appreciate any info or PM’s!

One thing missing from your description is what version of the Star Wars films are you interested in seeing?  If you are not sure of the version, mention the key elements which are important to you or the things you'd rather not see.

There is no one stop location to get all the projects discussed in these forums.  Some creators set up a torrent, others use file sharing, others go usenet and some have websites.  Each thread handles it their own way.

Thank you for pointing that out!  The versions I'd like to see are the ones originally shown in theaters, warts and all.  Eventually I'd LOVE to be able to pick and choose certain versions of all three films, since there were some SE shots and/or added effects that I liked.

However, right now I just want to take a trip down memory lane with my old friends.  There's plenty of time to pick and choose other versions later on.

I would recommend Dark Jedi's V3 DVDs.  Best option for you at this time.

Agree with the above.  You can burn the Dark jedi V3 to a regular dual layer dvd for use on your standard dvd player.  Then when you have a blu-ray you can check out Harmy's V2 after he finishes.  With these 2 versions you'll pretty much be set.

Read about where to get DJ's V3 here:  http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-Original-Trilogy-Theatrical-Editions-Info-ALL-versions-SEE-FIRST-POST-FOR-INFO-AND-AVAILABILITY/topic/10550/

for the 1997 SE pick up all the pal sets (gkar,tb,flunk and reivax) this is on myspleen

for the OOT, dark jedis v3 is as good as it gets short of converting harmys v1 to dvd. OmegaMattmans sets have the 80s docs like from star wars to jedi and other nice bonuses. (PM OmegaMattman for his set)

i have pm'ed you an invite to myspleen to grab these sets

cheers

Would I be able to trouble someone for a Myspleen invite also?

Thanks!

Thanks, Cobra Kai & djchaseb!

I saw the thread for Dark Jedi's versions and they sound great!  I just got an account on MySpleen, but now my challenge is to download the files and burn them correctly.  I've never done this before.  I'm assuming that I can ask at the MySpleen forums for details on this?

I was also wondering about the lovely DVD inserts pictured in his post.  They are GORGEOUS.  Does anyone know if those files included in the download?  If not, how would I go about obtaining them?

The DVD covers are included in the torrents I think.

In case you haven't read through dark_jedi's thread, I'm working with him on a blu-ray upscale which will look so much better than the V3 DVDs that you should really check that one out once it's finished. There's been talk that someone might downscale it and make a V4 DVD set of them.

And of course, you could download Harmy's versions and use ConvertXtoDVD or some similar software to make DVDs from them.

I recommend both versions since each has their pro's. Harmy works from the SE blu-ray's which means good resolution and no smearing/ghosting, while me and dark_jedi are working from the 2006 bonus DVDs, improving them as much as possible.

It will definitely be nice to retire the official Blu Rays once the DJ/YT versions are complete.
