Info Wanted: Thrawn Trilogy Project -- Want Your Input

 (Edited)

I and a few others want to do a project based off the Thrawn trilogy. We cannot create a full movie experience, but want to capture some of the spirit and adventure of the original trilogy. We do have some specific projects in mind that we can do, based off of our professional skills/experience. First, though, we wanted to see what type of projects/products you all would like to see, and what ideas you would suggest for us to do.

Thank you for your input! If you have any questions, feel free to PM or ask here.

Well just to throw an idea out there, you could do sort of a motion comic using elements from the comic adaptations or original artwork if you can find the resources. Then it would just be a matter of finding voice actors.

Ok, that’s an interesting one! I’ve seen that done for some other stories and if you have some dramatic angles in the art, it can be really effective. What do you like about this idea most? Do you think it would be seeing new artwork, the voices, or seeing the story presented in a different format?

One of our original ideas was a “soundtrack” based off of the story, with the new character themes and cues for the battles and chases and pivotal scenes. We were going to have artwork for some of the tracks. I like the idea of having the art and sound more interactive. And if the artwork idea is something you really like, that could have more emphasis.

The soundtrack idea sounds amazing, it could become a companion to the novels by being something you listen to while reading them. Matching the music to to what’s happening in the book could be difficult since obviously everyone reads at a different pace but I’m sure some scientist somewhere has spent too much money to find out what the average reading speed is. 😄

Hmm, I wonder if just a “start this track at chapter 7, hit repeat” would work for a more low tech option? You’d still have reading differences and a track probably couldn’t span a whole chapter. Or, maybe “Start track at battle scene in chapter 7.” There is probably a better way to achieve your idea, lol, I’ll have to think about it. It would be cool though if we could figure out how to sync them up!

You could just sync up the music to someone reading the book and release it as an audiobook track.

This sounds pretty cool! You can find some pretty cool SW soundtracks in video games. Check out the Shadows of the Empire OST, Star Wars: Battlefront OST, and radio drama music from the original Story of Star Wars LPs.

Thanks for the suggestions! I haven’t heard the radio drama music. The video games have some great music on them. I’ll look to see if I can find the Story of Star Wars music.

I think some sort of narrated comicbook/storybook animated art would be cool. Sort of like moving storyboards or something. Maybe use an audiobook as the main source and have voice actors portray the characters. Is there any way I can help? I’d be glad to.

I like this idea, too, and the idea of using an audiobook track to keep words, music and art in sync. Would you want to see the whole story (well, the majority at least), or just selected scenes?

Here is a demo track we put together to show what we can do on the music side. It took time to put together, both on the composition and the production, and we are happy with how it came together. We’d love feedback on it and if this gives you different ideas on a direction we could go, that’d be great too. Hope you enjoy it!

Who is we? I really hope this isn’t a team account. I’ve had enough of that for one lifetime.

Nope, not a team account. Just one person, tho I do take more credit than I should. 😃

Doing this project is a joint idea, so I usually say “we” when I talk about stuff “we” were all involved in making/thinking. I’d do the website/layout stuff, then there is a composer, then a music production guy, and maybe an artist. This account is all mine though (as well as opinions, typos, etc), and they would make their own accounts if they got involved in the conversation.
