Does anyone have a copy of the footage from the Star Tours ride?

I’d love to have this

Yeah, it came with the rarities disc from a while back. I could probably upload it for ya from the return of the ewok disc.

Coincidentally, the official site has just made the complete audio to star tours available to hyperspace members. Well, I, uh, um, uploaded it to rapidshare since I happen to be a hyperspace member. I'm not completely sure if this is allowed, someone let me know if this shouldn't be on here. I just found it and wanted to put it up for all. Someone might could use it in a preservation of the star tours video or something, since this is likely the highest quality available for the audio.

Sorry, reposting hyperspace content is not allowed. What you do via private messages or email, however, is your own damn business.

Man, I always thought this would make a good dvd preservation. If someone has a good video copy, I definitely think it should be preserved.
I always wanted to do this, but I never found any good video of the ride. I started collecting different photos of the ride and the "exhibits" that are with it.
It would be cool to include a slideshow of these images along with any other good pictures people had to offer up.
Also, along with the video of the ride, there definitely would also have to be all of the instruction videos featuring the Star Wars characters.
Well, that Star Tours audio file is a step in the right direction. It's sounds crystal clear, so now we just need the video!

That Star Tours flash animation would be good to include as well...that was pretty cool...anyway...

Thanks for the audio file tip Adamwankenobi, nice to hear a clear version of the ride, although if that's the file offered by hyperspace, I'd have liked to see them offer a file with a better bitrate/sample rate to paying subscribers.

As for the video, I've seen the one on the rarities disc, which is fairly low quality, and I've just found an mpg of camcorder footage someone took of the ride. It doesn't show the ride off quite as well as the rarities version, and sound is blownout (less of an issue now thanks to AdamW), but the most interesting thing about it is it shows the entrance set/animatronics during queue for the ride.

edit update: I've now uploaded the camcorder footage file to megaupload.com, its approx 74mb. Get It Here

I think I found the same file above from Disneyland Source. It is smaller and in Windows Media Video Format. Here it is... Star Tours

Good upload Crypto Sith, just downloaded it and it looks like a different clip taken by someone else, although as they focus on almost exactly the same points of interest, they're are very similar. The audio is so much better in your clips though, and you get to see things from a slightly different angle, and the video quality is arguably nicer.

Interesting to hear where the clips came from. I tried to find Disneyland Source, but the site seems to be 'mostly dead' - even using the wayback machine, there's not much of it left archived. The good news, is that is lives on in its successor www.visionsfantastic.com and bizarrely on there, is a WMV version of the mpg file i uploaded, as well a smaller differently edited version using the same footage, even down to the overloud distorted audio.

Was hoping they might have more info on the ride on their site, but they only seem to have one page, with a single image devoted to it, aside from the video clips.

If anyone wants the clips from the visions fantastic site, they're free to download from the site, but you have to register (for free) to access them.

Aaron Synder has done a nice disc just dedicated to Star Tours. Alex Newborn has also done a disc of Star Tours related material.

Neither of them have a really high quality version of the ride vid though.

What we need is someone on the inside who works at Disney and can copy the footage for us. But I'm sure they wouldn't want this stuff getting out, so it might be harder than acquiring the Death Star plans themselves.

I'm going to try and post the complete ride video from the rarities disc if anyone's interested. Also, is there any way to download to your HD that flash animation version?

EDIT: BTW, you can download the clip of C-3PO's "safety video" from the ride here. It's not very good quality, but it is what it is.

I am actually attempting to turn the flash film into an mpg. I've done it before, but I need to clear some HD space first.

Sounds like a good move mebejedi.

I just found this site devoted to Star Tours, www.swstartours.net.
There's a thread by Kitmouse who made the flash movie, sounds like he could still be tinkering with it. It also mentions a DVD one of them put together full of Star Tours goodness.
"a DVD that I made, which compiled every video clip of Star Tours that I could lay my hands on, including electronic press kit clips, etc."
Ocpmovie, does that one that sound familiar, and any idea if the guys from this forum made the discs you mentioned? Admittedly their names are completely different, but that's hardly anything new.

That is probably Alex Newborn, who made the "other" Star Tours disc. He also shot camcorder footage at C3 including a muffled recording of a commentary session for Return of the Ewok.

Aaron Snyder did the best Star Tours disc though.

Can you give any clues as to how we might get a hold of these discs??

This whole idea is sounding better and better. I too would love to get a hold of these discs, and perhaps combine them into one massive "Star Tours" dvd.
I feel like we're so close to making a really cool set. I've seen lots of the "Star Tours" videos floating around, along with great pictures, etc.
All of this really needs to be collected onto one dvd. I guess we should start by looking at the content of these ellusive discs. If anyone has copy of them, might you be willing to share?
Also, there are other things that would be worth including, such as the promotional videos for Star Wars weekends at Disneyland.
Anyway, this really does have so much potential...I hope we can get it off the ground...

I could supply one ST commercial and a promotional short that was shown on The Wonderful World of Disney in the 1980s and taped on Betamax.

I think we could combine the camcorded footage with the ride video from the rarities disc, to show all that is going on during the ride. Such as while Rex is talking at the beginning, cut to him and things like that. Rowman, what are these clips like you're talking about?

Well, I think everyone that has wanted that audio, has got it by now. Am I right guys? If not, ask, and I'll help you out.

In late 1986, Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers in the 25th Century) and Ernie Reyes Jr. (the kid from Surf Ninjas and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II), hosted 'A Vacation In Space', promoting the Star Tours ride at Disneyland. C-3PO and R2-D2 also made appearances. The show takes a peek at how Star Tours was made and also at the history of space travel and space-flicks. At the end, Ernie actually goes on the Starspeeder, giving away some teasers of the ride itself. However, most notably, at the beginning of the special, R2-D2 and C-3PO do a rap song which ends up being the highlight of this 17 minute 'commercial'.

That star tours promo sounds intriguing Rowman, curious to see/hear the droid rapsong now. Having experienced 'Christmas in the Stars' album, and similar musical atrocities of their appearance on Sesame Street, I'm imagining something 'worthy' of the Holiday Special

Here's another video clip (73mb), a look at Star Tours at Disneyland Paris, from Germany's RTL channel. Needless to say, it's in German. Do we have any German speakers who can translate it?

Here's some screengrabs. The quality of the ride footage looks great, but unfortunately there's only a few seconds of it.
