Info Wanted: Question - some expanded and workprint versions...

(Edited)

I see many here fiddle with extended versions, workprints, etc., and judging by the interest in them (e.g. the question about the extended Waterworld), there’s some interest in such versions… so I was wondering if, perhaps, someone here would know anything about the possibility of finding any of these anywhere…

“Black Hawk Down” - the workprint version.
“The Bloodline Story” - Kevin Yagher’s first cut/workprint of “Hellraiser IV: Bloodline”
“Boogie Nights” - the long workprint/rough cut version
“The Dark Half” - the workprint for the King adaptation.
“Darkman” - the unaired 30 minute pilot for an abandoned TV series (http://www.movies.westumulka.com/darkman/television.html)
“Eaters of the Dead” - John McTiernan’s first cut/workprint of “The Thirteenth Warrior”, with Revell’s score and before Michael Crichton’s takeover.
“King Kong 1976” - the longer TV version of this remake, 3 hours long.
“The Mask” (the comedy) - the workprint with missing SFX, animations, Carrey doing everything with a real rubber mask, etc.
“Starship Troopers”- the workprint/rough cut version.

I know a character who had many of these, but he only did trades, only wanted NTSC tapes (blargh) and already had all the workprints that I have.

I didn't forget that Woo flick or Crow, I just wouldn't want either of those two in any form, workprint or finished...

Lets not forget the daddy of all workprints...the 'Apocalypse Now' workprint, which I used to own, but sadly I got rid of it seeing as it was a near 5 hour movie and the quality left a little to be desired.

Aside from that, I would've killed for 'Eaters of the Dead' as well. Plus 'Payback', the original version before Gibson altered the original dark tone of the film to make something more comical.

I would love 'Hard Target' as well. I can Paypal the cost of a disc if anyone in the UK has it, or any workprint for that matter.

This is one of my favorite films. How was the workprint different?

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Sorry to all those who were interested, I do not have the workprint of Hard Target as I must have deleted the wrong copy off my hard drive, so I'm stuck with the Japanese extended cut. However, after searching Google, I found this site which has hundreds of workprints for sale, I've never used them before so can't vouch for them, but hell if I had the money they'd be a few discs that I'd order.

what about the 3 hour plus workprint of revenge of the sith? anyone have it,
maybe the fabled lost cut of the first star wars?

I have the Sith workprint and a few other screener versions including the 900ish MB Russian screener (the titles are in Russian, but the audio is English. The quality is very good too).
I am also waiting on what is claimed to be a DVD screener of Sith.
I'll post some info once I get it.

There's a Hard Target Director's Cut torrent on mininova, I wasn't gonna bother with this but looking at the extended info it claims to be the 20 minute extended workprint. So I'm downloading it now just to see if it is.

Well, not that much is known about it to be honest. The IMDB says that test audiences were 'unhappy' with the film. But there really doesn't seem anything to back that up. What is known is that John McTiernan made his version, submitted it and waited for approval. However, Micheal Crichton decided he didn't like it, so he went ahead and re-cast a lot of the parts and re-shot most of the film, which is why it was delayed for 15 months.

The film is then an odd mix of McTiernan's version and Crichtons. You can tell it's messed up because not only are their styles completely different but the actors have gained/lost weight.

Anyway, there's little chance of this ever seeing the light of day. As far as I can tell, the only time the original footage was seen was during the initial test screenings.

Would it be possible to get this off you? I've been after this for a while seeing as, for some reason, I love this film.

Some great uncut prints to get would be the 'Friday the 13th' movies and also 'My Bloody Valentine'

Uh, you want the Japanese extended cut? It's only three minutes longer and it's been so long since I've watched the original version I'm not even sure what the differences are anymore.

As for Friday The 13th, the first one is available in it's fully uncut form in the UK.

Is that all? Aw crap, I thought it was longer than that for some reason.

As for the first 'Friday...'. I have that copy, although I'm sure I read somewhere that although the UK cut has more gore than the American R-Rated cut, there is also an Asian version that is completely uncut, I can be and probably am wrong though.

I'm downloading it at 18k/s at the moment, there were seeds earlier, at least there's enough peers for me to make a start on it.

From the site I linked to in an earlier post:

Friday the 13th uncut import (1980)
Running Time: 1:34:55

Language: English
Quality Rating: A

Letterboxed
No Subtitles (several languages optional)

Directed By: Sean S. Cunningham

Special Effects / Make-up: Tom Savini

Starring: Adrienne King, Betsy Palmer, Harry Crosby, Mark Nelson, Kevin Bacon

The splatter classic Friday the 13th was released in Asia with more of Tom Savini's brilliant make-up effects intact; effects which were cut from all of the US releases, even the DVD.

The extra scenes are included in this version of the film, including:

Annie's death scene is a little longer. More blood is shown oozing from her slit throat.

The death of Jack (Kevin Bacon) contains more blood, including a camera shot from above showing blood spraying out of his neck and into his mouth. This scene alone makes this a must-see tape!

The shot of Marcie when she is axed in the head is a little longer.

Edit: Looks to be an exact port of the UK disc.

One expanded movie I'm curious about is Battle For the Planet of the Apes, which has deleted material in the Japanese laserdisc, I believe, and I think it was aired on TV. Not sure why it's never been included in a US release (nor the Friday the 13th stuff, either), but after the recent spiffed-up original POTA DVD, which nonetheless was just a repackaging of the film with the 2-disc Behind the Planet of the Apes (which itself was a newer version of the old one disc of that), maybe the whole series will be re-released with more extras. And, from what I understand, the first POTA itself has deleted scenes.
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

booah:
I sure hope the rest of the POTA series gets some decent treatment, though somehow I know that'll never be. :/ The box of DVDs that had all of the movies was great because it allowed me to throw out a VHS or two, but really apart from the first film and the Behind the Planet of the Apes, the presentation of the latter films was crap.

I now have the Hard Target workprint, it's not doing very well on mininova, there were twelve seeds earlier, now there's just one. Is anyone else here downloading this, cuz I need to get off for a while. If anyone needs me to, I'll get back on it ASAP.

By the way, could someone make a cover for this?
