Info Wanted: Question regarding prequel trilogy edits in general...

Why does everybody change the film names?  I mean what is offensive about the original names? I’d say that they all fit the film’s story quite nicely.  Phantom Menace goes on with wondering who the sith lord is.  Attack of the Clones is about… the clones.  Revenge of the sith is about… the sith rising again.  I mean what’s wrong with them?  They fit alongside A New Hope as well.  Because Luke is the new hope to defeat the sith that just had revenge.  The Empire Strikes back is basically the empire attempting to crush the rebellion and locate skywalker and crew after they destroyed the death star.  Return of the Jedi calls back (forward?) to revenge of the sith, in EpIII the sith rose, in EP VI The Jedi brings balance to the force.  They all fit together, I don’t see what’s wrong with them.  The films themselves is another matter! I enjoy the edits in general just wish they would leave the name and opening crawls alone.

youd be amazed at what an opening crawl alone would fix.

also Im not a fan of some name changes, but I do understand that its the editor's choice.

when (s)he says its episode one, by any name, its still episode one.

This is what I do, besides fanediting.

I'd say its a mix of authorship, and that some edits alter the focus of the film. Plus it makes it alot simpler to differentiate between them!

Because George Bush doesn't care about black people.

Actually this tends to be a pet peeve of mine. I think the names are fine as is.

I think the titles are fine too, except for Attack of the Clones.  The clones work for the good guys?  Very misleading.

Fan edits of the PT are running out of titles too.  There are only so many ways to jumble 4 words together into a good Star Wars title that resembles what will happen in the film.

I don't have a problem with editors renaming the films though.  It gives them a different flavor, and perpetuates the illusion of watching a completely new film.  But I think the era of original titles is coming to an end.

I've always thought of AOTC to be a symmetrical play off of TESB.  True they were on our side, but they ended up becoming the army used by the empire.

Attack Of The Clones is a complete misnomer as they're not the attackers. If a B-Movie type title (which is what Lucas was going for) says 'Attack Of', you assume it refers to the enemy, but it doesn't.

And I know they eventually become the enemy, but for the purpose of the events of the film, it's the enemy of our protagonists that counts, surely.

It would've been a fine title had Lucas done what he should have all along and made the enemy forces the clones. Then we may not have had a mystery subplot that made no sense (the clones being made by the enemy, yet still being used by our heroes who never investigate it further) It would've made for a better film and a title that actually made sense.
