Please scan or take pictures of the cassette.  Nice to have a link to the past as part of the package.

Mine's an MR-1.

I received the tape today.  Cheap cassette brand, but the sound is remarkably good.  I think it's the 70mm mix.  I've made it through the first 30 minutes, and it's the "other" Beru.  The theater must have had a very nice sound system, as both the highs and the lows sound very clear and full.  I'll continue working on it tonight.

The only significant audience reaction so far was when R2 was in the canyon and started acting scared.  Lots of clearly audible giggles.  I'm sure there will be more to report as I continue to make my way through it.

"Other" Beru? I thought that was only the mono. Morgands' 70mm recording has the normal one ("most of his friends have GONE" - mono is "most of his FRIENDS have gone")

It's funny that you mention that as it was exactly my intention to make a photo of the cassette as the cd slipcover.  If you guys just want a photo of the cassette to be the standard issue cover, that would be awesome!  Once you see the cassette with it's great patina, I think you would like it.

It would pay my mom the proper respect.

OH, then I'm wrong.  I just know that it can't be the 35mm.

I do know that the theater it was shown in (Cine Capri), was considered state of the art in its day and for a long time thereafter.

Some really cool mojo on this tape.  I feel like I'm 17 again listening to it.

Second moment of clear audience reaction... when Han tells C3PO that droids don't pull people's arms out of their sockets when they lose.  Audible laughs.

Halfway through...

This is starting to sound really good!

Where were you in '77?

Ok, now I'm confused.  It can't be the mono mix because "close the blast doors" is absent.  But it sounds like the mono mix Beru.  I need to go back now and listen to all the various Berus more carefully.

Much more audience reactions in the second hour.  Applause in two spots.

If this is a good quality recording of the 70mm mix, then I'm extremely interested in hearing it.  I'll be able to tell for sure what it is, I can promise you that.  ;)

You can check if there's a big bang when Han takes out Vader's wingman in the trench at the end of the film, if there is, it's the Six-Track Dolby. The 35mm explosion is almost inaudible.

Thanks for sharing this Protocol Droid! :)

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Another telltale sign - in the first trench run, when the first guy to get blown up (Gold Two) gets hit, before the ship actually explodes you can hear a high pitched "pew pew" explosion sound. It's the same effect you hear right before the Death Star laser fires down the shaft and the two guys shield themselves.

The other most noticeable difference is that after they get out of the garbage pit and Chewie runs away frightened, the trash monster makes a sort of high-pitched roaring before Han fires a shot back into the door.

This sound is heard in the mono and 70mm versions, but not in the 35mm stereo.  This addition hasn't been pointed out before, to my knowledge.

...this sounds brilliant. It would be awesome if it would sync up with Harmy and PuggoGrande when all is said and done

Yeah that's what I was thinking, this'd be neat to have as an alternate audio track for the DeEd or any of the other theatrical-version preservation efforts out there.

It maybe cheeky and unnecessary, but so that this recording sync's up with the movie, at the point where the recording stops for a tape flip, maybe drop in some other audio (but silence is fine) the cheesy 'Let's all go out to the movies' comes to mind or maybe a piece of the SW audio book with the clip 'turn the page when R2 beeps'.
