Info Wanted: How do you report projects illegally sold on eBay?

(Edited)

I’ve just seen that, once again, a “Holiday Special” DVD is currently on eBay…
eBay
(at the time I’m writing that, it left less than 20 minutes)

I was just wondering: how can we fight against that? Is there any way to report an illegal sold of preservation DVDs?

Maybe you can tell DarkFox, and he'll tell his mommy...

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

I posted this back in 2004 but it still applies...

No these boards are not here to stop eBay sellers from selling bootlegs - BUT it does help, The fact is it's NO big deal that they sell them - YES it sucks as they sell my Holiday Special with my artwork (for upto $100!!) but hey it happens. When this first happened I was angry but it's cool as I did post them on the internet for the whole world to get for FREE!

BUT YES - It's true that they could come HERE and get them either for FREE or way CHEAPER then they could on eBay - BUT some people NEVER research that kind of stuff SO those people NEED eBay - I mean have you seen the feedback these alleged "jackers" are getting form the buyers of these overpriced sets? They (the bidders) LOVE what they are getting and the feedback they leave the "jacker" shows this - IF they did not like the DVD's they would negative feedback.

So WHY screw it up for the fans that cannot or will not spend the MANY MANY hours needed to track down a set of "fan-created" DVD's?

Some of these bidders do not have HOME PC's, Printers, DVD burners, broadband or the know-how to Burn, Print and create their own DVD sets. These bidders are getting COMPLETE sets for the most part - That's a TURN-KEY set that they can add to there DVD collections.

I do not agree with those that sell strictly for profit (you know who you are guys) BUT the DO have there place.

That and eBay has it's own Police to shut this stuff down, MOSTLY it's just other sellers that shut down folks like my brother (WHOM sold the sets for $25 SHIPPED Priority Mail with keepcase and disc art!!) - AS WE cut into their PROFITS. It would seem that even I was reported on SELL.COM by another member who sold Star Wars DVD's on that site AS I was cutting in on their profits. - You see the true pirates SHUT us down when we try to sell cheap, this is one reason the prices stay high - If a seller comes on the scene and starts to get people set-up CHEAP those profiteers jsut report us. (by the way... I've joined the other sites they sell on!! - see ya soon! )

I just see no point in hunting down these eBay sellers, since if you do start that crusade you'll really need to hunt them down on EPIER.COM, SELL.COM and of course YAHOO auctions. THEN you'll need to hunt down the sellers that offer them on FORUMS and NEWSGROUPS....

Soon you'll come after fans like myself and a few others that upload them for free.

THE best thing for us to do at this point is EVERYONE should start to sell on ALL THE ONLINE AUCTION houses - IF we do this WE can FORCE down the price off the bootlegs on eBay and the other sites.

THAT and if they get shut down... HOW the heck will WE (as in the FANS collectively) get the latest bootlegs that WE here on the OT forums do not create?

Leave it be. It's overpricing and ripping-offing, but a lot of people aren't internet savvy .... Ebay gets these discs to the "soccer moms" and teens who haven't quite discovered other methods yet. Ditto comic con bootlegs. I think a lot of us started out actually paying those prices for something we wanted to see!

These people are certainly scum, but they're there because they fill a need that exists.

Like me paying nearly 30 bucks last year for a shitty copy of the holiday special on eBay, until I found this fine site, and Rikter's holiday special.

It never really bothered me.

I bought the original tr47 bootlegs for $25. I did not mind paying it. I got what I wanted and I felt it was a fair price.

At the time I did not have high speed access or bittorrent and had not found this site.

You have to remember that some people have more money than time or knowledge.

Things are worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If someone pays $100 for a set and he is satisfied, then it was worth it for him.

For example, Airline seats: The person next to you on your flight more than likely did not pay the same price for his seat as you did. Does it make the flight any less satisfying?

I say relax. Once you have posted something on the internet, it becomes community property. If you want to truely own your work, DO NOT release it on the internet. What others do with it or to it from there, you really don't have any control over, nor should you.

If you make the best SW DVD cover ever and there is no one to admire your work, did you really create it?

I would feel proud that someone felt that my custom cover was the one they thought would sell their product the best.

Since we do not own or have any legal rights associated with the SW films or its images, we should do it all for personal glory and satisfaction. So let it be...

...or to a friend with internet access.

Also....girls (and wives)...don't let your man take photographs of you naked (or worse yet - videotape you!)

And for the men, don't let a cam with you recorded on it, playing a Jedi to see how cool you are with a metal bar in your hands... (->see Star Wars Kid for those who don't know...)

Well, I've read the posts and it has sense. In fact, it's very similar to piracy for music artists who are still unknown. It's a good way to distribute quality stuff, even if it musn't be encouraged, cause in this case, some people are making money with no original stuff (it wouldn't bother me at all if it was the case), but copyrighted material. That makes a big difference IMO.
But yes, it's a good way for fans who don't know this site to have a copy of Holiday Special, or any other interesting, and not officially released, SW material. I understand the point.

There's no real point in wasting your time reporting feebay auctions. Even if you are successful in shutting a seller down, they simply make a new account and start over. There are many sellers selling similar items anyway, so trying to "help" is pointless, since VeRO eventually catches up to them.
