Info Wanted: Did i get the right original preservation DVD's? (from ebay)

So i got the Definitive Collection on DVD, right? Bought it on EBay and it stated that it was the ORIGINAL theatrical release…so why does it say Star Wars IV A New Hope in the intro. It looks like a burn from the LD. I’m just trying to make sure I got the original and not the CGI molested version. Thanks

Bought it on EBay

Probably not a good idea to begin with.

Bought it on EBay and it stated that it was the ORIGINAL theatrical release.........

There are many definitions of that. The TRUE theatrical version does not exist in widescreen, although it has been recreated by EditDroid. But just because it has the "Episode IV" title doesn't mean it's the SE. What you probably have is the 1993 remastering of the 1981 rerelease. And the only visual difference between this version and the original release is the opening crawl.

Yeah from what I can tell it was captured from the Laser Disc and burned onto a DVD. Check out the item here if you don't mind taking the time

I'm just thinking of getting the LaserDisc itself here:

i'm showing this to a family member for the first time and any help would be appreciated.

thanks again

Help: There are people here that would either give you excellent DVD's of the original trilogy for free, or else charge you very little for them. There are many different ones to choose from, all with different options, like: anamorphic widescreen, isolated score, recreation of original crawl, 1993 or 1986 version of sound mix, PCM or Dolby...there's lots to choose from.

But getting this stuff on Ebay is dangerous: you don't know what you're getting, and you're probably paying more than you have to.

Judging by the commentary soundtrack and the screenshot, the copy you bought is the Dr Gonzo version which is one of the better versions.

Go here to read more about it.

Stick around here and you will read about different and so called better versions that can be acquired for far, far less than the Dr Gonzo set cost you

Only one known version has a commentary soundtrack as stated in the ebay listing and that is the Dr Gonzo version............

Here are a few menu shots of the Dr Gonzo version to help you out.

It always sucks to see other people profiting from the transfer I made. When I made copies for some folks, I never charged a dime more than discs + shipping and posted them on a.b.binaries a few times for free distribution. Oh well ... it's always bound to happen.

EDIT: I've reported the seller to eBay. They have nothing but bootleg items for sale.

JDawg, if I were you I'd try asking the seller for a refund, on the grounds that the item description did not make it clear that the DVD is actually a bootleg copy of a laserdisc transfer.

I think that he knew that they were "Fan Preservations" - (using the term bootleg really suggests that you can by the REAL DVD - which we know you cannot do right?) and that is why he bought them. ONLY a very small number of fans know that this site is here and that I've uploaded most of the DVD's for free.

- There are a FEW members from THIS VERY FORUM that sell on eBay and then still a few others that have in the past sold the DVD's for between $65-$99 for the 4 DVD's and MOST OF THEM use the Dr. Gonzo and then some of them only sell the Original Cowclops transfers - sold on sites like Sell.com, Ioffer.com and Bayoubid.com. ONE member OF THIS FORUM even went as far as to use MY Holiday Special DVD and the cover I created and was selling them for $30-$80 on eBay (I EVEN emailed him the cover after he asked for it!! - problem is solved )

The fact is there will always be some shifty fellow[s] that will sell these FAN CREATED PRESERVATIONS for profit - there have been a few out there that have attempted to help out eBay buyers buy selling these DVD's dirt cheap but they always get reported by DARK SIDE DEALERS that only care about their PROFITS - cut into their profits and they will report you and get you shut down.

THIS is why I started to upload all the DVD's that I have on the TORRENTS - SURE my Holiday Special got sold and is still being sold on eBay (along with Dr. Gonzo's DVD's and Cerebro's covers!) but hey there is just no way to stop them. There are a MILLION fans out there that want the ORIGINAL TRILOGY and there will be untill George Lucas releases them (IF EVER) so there will ALWAYS be a demand and DARK DEALERS will always sell these DVD for a profit (COCKSMOKERS - and you KNOW who you are) and will continue to do so.

AND I will keep uploading these DVD's for free and trying to help PREVENT fans from paying $140 for these DVD's.

Again, AVOID eBay and their eJackers (the new term for dark dealers ) - visit myspleen.net for FREE downloads or if broadband is not an option contact me.

I lost a good sum of money on ebay before I found this site. I am just glad that I only bought two sets...my losses could have been a lot worse.

There are some people at this forum...nay, in this very thread, that have no reason whatsoever to be talking. Hypocrites...you know who you are.

I usually try once a week to go onto ebay and search "Star Wars original trilogy dvd" and e-mail all bidders that they can get these for free on Myspleen if able to download & burn, and in some cases I have burned FREE copies if they send me the blank DVDrs in pre-paid postage envelopes. Sometimes it works.

Thats CRAP that someone on this forum is selling your guys hard work.

Looking up to the posts of this thread, I only see people who either:
1) Have offered discs to my for free/a small cost.
2) Have already paid by mistake a considerable amount of money to buy their copies.
So I'm thinking that saying that there are hypocrites in this very thread sounds a bit too hard.
There are not so many of them IMHO, most people in this forum are kind, helpfull and trustworthy.
And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

Most people here are kind and helpful. I just know of a few in this thread that are selling these sets on ebay (for high amounts of money) and I don't think it's right for them to be in here pretending that they feel the same way. I apologize if I offended anyone with my comments...it just pisses me off when someone won't at least admit to what they're doing.
