I was wondering if the following Dark Jedi Preservation which seems to have different color qualities would yield a different (maybe better?) set of results from GOUT?
I'm pretty sure Dark Jedi used the GOUT, meaning his results on the GOUT would be Dark Jedi's Preservation.

It's a different source so different results, yes. Better results, maybe if you would work with the actual LD instead of an old preservation of it.

From a color correction point of view, of course it could come out with different, even better results than the GOUT.
Personally, I'm not interested in color correcting a fullscreen version though.

About that adjustment: In the second pic, the brightest whites in the back are gone. If you're using curves, make sure to not move the top and bottom points of the curve but make a middle point for adjustment, for example. This would prevent that from happening.

Yeah of course you can dig up stuff from any source but the best would be to have a raw lossless capture of the LD to start with. I guess this is a DVD you've been working with?

Also it looks like a digitized VHS would require hardly any color correction at all - just less brightness and a touch more contrast or whatever

lol I was thinking the same thing, I have been following this thread a bit only because my partner You_Too has made some comments but these VHS captures suck really bad, and I have done a few of them myself lol, and on top of that, fullscreen? what is that?

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder what the point of this thread really is? Not to criticize color-analyzing of different versions of the movies, but just like DJ I think fullscreen is way outdated and just the fact that there ARE much better looking widescreen versions out there kills my interest for fullscreen forever.
Well despite the extremely unlikely prospect that a retro fullscreen/analog revival kicks in sometime in the future, I did find I could dig better colors out of another source, which was the Starkiller 82 Preservation, again it degraded the image but again working with original raw captures of the source laserdisc might yield a more pleasing result (or maybe not). Also someone who understood working color correction programs properly might get a more refined result.
The point for me was to try find the least red-shift damaged digitized/digitizable source and see what came out through color correction...
