If you could have one of the following which would it be?

This was something I was talking to my mates about the other day in the pub

What would you rather have?

1) A time machine - The Delorean from Back to the future to be precise

2) A spaceship - The Millenium Falcon from Star Wars

3) The holodeck - From Star trek TNG

Myself, I've always wanted the time machine, but the holodeck would just be bloody awsome. I'd program all Star Wars info into it, and start my adventure from the point where Luke meets Han in the Cantina. I would be like Han's second co pilot or somethig like that

But then a spaceship would be pretty cool. Flying across the galaxy, just to see if there is any other life forms out there...

Any one of the above would be so good!

I dream alot

Man I'm such a geek

So, which would you prefer??

A TIME MACHINE WOULD BE GREAT, BUT WE HAVE TO REMEMBER ALL OF THE PROBLEMS THAT IT GAVE DOC BROWN AND MARTY. THE MILLENIUM FALCON WOULD ROCK EXCEPT FOR THE PRICE OF GAS FOR IT WHICH IS GOING UP DAILY. HOW COOL WOULD IT BE TO HAVE A HOLODECK ??? IT WOULD BE SO COOL THAT YOU WOULD SPEND EVERY MOMENT OF YOUR LIFE IN THERE. LOOK WHAT'S HAPPENED TO ALL OF THOSE WORLD OF WARCRAFT PEOPLE. WE NEVER SEE THEM ON HERE ANY MORE.

Out of those three? The holodeck. I mean, it renders the other two obsolete. I can go back in time and fly a spaceship using it.

@PSYCHO_DAYV: It only gave Doc Brown and Marty problems because they were clumsy. In the end, all their time travel improved their lives.

My vote: A time machine. I'd go back and buy a ton of Microsoft, Intel, & IBM stock. Then I'd have enough money to put into holodeck & spaceship research. You know, all for advancing the human race.

Besides, you can't buy Deloreans anymore...

dpk5e7, yes you can.

There is a 1983 automatic DeLorean on a lot within 2 miles of my house. If I had a place to put it, I'd own it already.
That right there is why I would NOT say the Time Machine. I actually have a remote shot at "owning" one.

I have to agree with Sessler. The Holodeck means virtually infinite possibilities. Experience the past or imagine the future.

Yeah, I guess if I could see a DeLorean everyday, it'd probably lose it's luster. The time machine in "The Time Machine" was pretty interesting though.

The only thing I have against the holodeck choice is that it is essentially a big video game. Nothing against video games, of course, but I'd rather have one of the choices on that list that involves interacting in real life. In other words, it's one thing to see what live was/could be like, but it's an entirely different thing to actually be living in what life was/could be like.

My 2 cents.

I see exactly what you mean. Historic records could be flawed, causing the holodeck to be incorrect.
To use a Star Trek example, its like A Piece of the Action or The Royale.

I would get the time machine. I would go back in time and give myself an almanac, or even better, buy a lottery ticket... The I would go back and never use the time machine again, I'd just live from the money. I would use the time machine just one more time, when I'm an old man, almost dying: I would go back and promote chaos and havock, I'd prevent the Kennedy's assassinations, I would burn the Ed Sulivan theater while the Beatles are performing, I would kill my grandparents where they are just babies, I would kidnap Hitler and bring him to Japan so he could become a Gaijin Samurai, I would destroy the Lumiere brothers film camera... You know, just for fun, and then go back and laugh of the consequences, that is, if the universe don't colapse because of the paradoxes...
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

How much are they asking for that DeLorean Starkiller?

i would have to say being put in the Starwars universe with the millenium falcon would be pretty cool

I dont think the falcon uses normal gas so i dont think gas prices would be a problem. The falcon would be awsome cause you could just get away from it all (in the most extreme way possible). Though like sessler said, can do the same in the holodeck.

Time machine would be interesting, but there is so many possibilities, such as the limitations and effects that time travel could possible have, so Id have to ask, how does the time machine work. Like in the time machine movie, he changed stuff, but ultimatly the result was the same. or you could inadvertantly cause yourself to not exist.

That makes the holodeck more appealing cause its all the fun with complete safety (except didnt it once go haywire and people were getting killed in it). Yeah, i really couldnt decide which i would want more...they all are/would be awsome in their own way and the more i think about it, the farther from a decision i am

DAYV, I used to play WoW but actually got bored of it. The text based mud i used to play was much more fun/entertaining and had better 'replay' (if i can call it that) value.

Time Travelling Delorean.
But it would have to be with the Mr.Fusion upgrade because I don't know where to get plutonium.

Starkiller, how much is the delorean near your home going for?

War does not make one great.

I actually haven't called to ask about the price.

I've seen DeLorean's on Ebay for as low as $8000.

Holodeck. If I had that, I could simulate travel through time and space and wouldn't need the Delorean or the .5 past lightspeed engine.

DAYV, I figured that, but just wanted to point out that it is possible to escape WoW. And actually i didnt find it all that addicting...though i seem to be the minority in that respect.

I was going to say the DeLorean time machine, but Sessler's point made sense. With all the differences in the timeline that could be made from a trip, it'd be really hard to live out all your time travelling fantasies. That said, I'd do the holodeck. I could do all of that in a risk free environment!

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.
