Info Wanted: Are there VHS Transfers to DVD of the Original Trilogy here?

So I was talking with my friend about watching the OT and he had this silly idea of watching it on VHS. I laughed him off, but then I realized that the version of Star Wars I fell in love with (and the only version I knew for a good 7 years before the DVDs came out) was the fullscreen, pan and scan Faces VHS set. So, with my desire for Star Wars nostalgia in full force this month, I thought, why the hell not watch the OT on VHS, that’d be a real trip.

Thing is, though I still own my original VHS copies, every time I’ve tried to play a tape recently my VCRs have eaten them up. If that were to happen to my OT tapes, I’d be eternally depressed. So I thought, I bet ot.com has VHS transfers!

Well are there any? I’ve been looking through the forums and I can’t seem to find anything. If anyone knows of some, I’d really appreciate some info! Thanks bunches.

Mostly Laserdisc transfers, which look much better than VHS in general. Not sure if there was ever a pan and scan version of the faces set on Laserdisc though.

No, there wasn’t. I’m not sure if anyone has made a transfer of that set, but there may be a transfer of the 1982 VHS floating around somewhere. I’ve been meaning to capture my Faces set eventually but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Edit: My suggestion would be to go to a local thrift store and pick up a VCR and a shitty test tape to see if it works.

There are transfers of the 1982 tape on the organ. The 1995 Laserdisc is just a reissue of the 1993 set so there is no need to transfer it except for the interview with George Lucas.

I would have thought considering all the projects here there would have been one. I guess the 82 is good enough? (suppose I have to finally figure how to get an invite)

I’d really rather not risk it with my tapes.

Thanks guys.

I think what it is is that only recently has VHS become a nostalgia thing. When this site was started most people were stuck with watching it on tape, so they weren’t too interested in having them transferred. We’re just now getting to the point when people want to see them. If I can find a decent program for capturing VHS (for free) I’ll capture mine before TFA is out and put it on the personal organ site.

Okay, this will probably happen then. If anyone has any free software suggestions, let me know. I can also make a cap of the letterboxed 97SE trilogy if anyone happens to care. I’ll probably start working on this this week. I’ll get a thread going for them.

Ten years ago dark_jedi captured that set, and segaflip posted them on usenet before the retention wars.
They were re-posted five years ago, and are still indexed @nzbking.com

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

This sounds good to me too! I only have letterboxed copies of Episodes IV and VI… Would be cool to have the whole set, I think. 😄
