What if someone edited Back to the Future II to be more like actual 2015? Not exactly, of course (as with all interpretations of the future, it will, ironically, always be very dated), but just close enough to really feel all too familiar. You could add the Skype or Discord logo to Marty’s video chat with his boss. Replace Jaws 19 with Jurassic World or The Force Awakens (perhaps under the name Star Wars 7). Add some extras who are on their phones. Play some hit song from 2015 when Marty arrives to mirror Power of Love for 1985 and Mr. Sandman for 1955. Maybe one of the McFlies speaks to Siri or Alexa.

If someone who does a good William Hartnell impression could dub over David Bradley for the Doctor Who story Twice Upon a Time, that’d be nice.

I haven’t seen Mute, paja, but I think that is a cool idea. You should definitely go for it! What music were you considering to use?

Anakin, I like the idea of using a hit song from 2015 for when he is in the future! In my head I always pictured that he was in an alternate timeline of 2015, and all of the crazy stuff they did changed it again, but I think just adding in a little reference or two would be cool little touches.

I’m not really sure yet, I’m thinking of L.A Noire, might be a good one.

EDIT: Does anyone have a link to Mute? I have no idea how to download Netflix originals.

I don’t know what OT forum rules are, but I know fanedit.org has a pretty strict policy against editing streaming shows until they’re released in a purchaseable form (they might even need to be on DVD/BR) since you can’t “own the source” if it’s just streaming.

Which is to say, there’s no way to download it outside piracy.

One could, assuming they had no life, try to give Batman comic-style white eyes

Yeah, I was iffy on the idea when you first suggested it, but I really dig those!

I’ve got both one part (2:37) and two part (1:22 + 1:15) edits of The N00b Adventures I’m currently proofwatching. The split actually just so happens to be at the perfect place both narrative and editing-wise, as it’s just after a midpoint boss battle and covers up the one transition I just couldn’t pull off successfully. Based on my rewatch so far, I think it might work better in smaller chunks (no pun intended) of 10-15 minute episodes. It would still an upgrade from the original, with episodes being mostly around 5 minutes, but would stop between plotlines. This should make for about a dozen episodes. What do you guys think? I guess this series is a little too young for you? It’s not exactly high art, but it holds up.

What if The Hobbit was made into the first few films in Lord of the Rings instead of its own thing?

I’ve come across one pair of editors on Reddit attempting to do that. Before then, I’d toyed with it myself, but thought the time skip would be too big of a problem. Then it hit me (well, weeks later); just use the otherwise useless framing device of old Bilbo writing the story! That way there’s technically no time jump, it’s just the first two films are flashbacks.

Building off of that, how about a Rashomon/The Last Jedi style contradictory tellings of Riddles in the Dark? When Tolkien first wrote The Hobbit, Bilbo wins the riddle contest legitimately and Gollum is willing to give him the Ring (although he can’t find it because Bilbo already has it). When he started writing Lord of the Rings and realized that portrayal of Gollum didn’t match his new story, he rewrote the chapter for new editions and decided that the original was a lie told by Bilbo. Thus, in the first film, when Bilbo meets Gollum, the events could play out like in the first edition of the book, since we’re only seeing this through the perspective Bilbo gives us. Then, in Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf tells us the true story, which he has deduced from speaking to Gollum.

I was thinking today about how in the episode of Movie Pitch on Home Alone I saw awhile back mentioned how tacked-on the Christmas theme and wondered “What if someone edited out all references to Christmas in Home Alone?”. I’m not even sure it’s possible, but it’s an interesting idea.

Not an idea per say, but an interesting tidbit of edit-related information. If you add them all up and divide the total into two hour movies, The Hobbit is four parts and The Lord of the Rings is six. Granted most sane people would rather not have full unfiltered cuts of The Hobbit, but it’s interesting to note even extended they didn’t stretch it to the length of LotR.

Has anyone inserted any SW: Prequel music into other films?

Extended Hobbits 1 and 2 are around 3h each, which is the length of theatrical LOTR 1 and 2.

Extended Hobbit 3 is only 2h45m, shorter than every LOTR theatrical cut, and yet it still feels twice as long as the 4hr ROTK EE…

So a robot uprising leads to a zombie apocalypse and not a robot apocalypse? How does that work?
