If Michel Parbot doesn't have a copy, and he directed the thing, then even if you can't spread it to this community I suggest you send him a copy. I'm sure Gary Kurtz wouldn't mind you sending a copy to the guy who helped get the thing made.

I have to agree. Michel Parbot certainly deserves a copy of this, even if the rest of the world never gets to see it.

I wonder if he is even a Star Wars fan?

Just got this word from Steve Sansweet via another contact:

"It was actually a UK production with mostly French film crew. It probably aired only in the UK and only once. It was mostly about “Hoth.” LFL (Lucasfilm Ltd) has a copy which was taped from the screen once many years ago and played at an Australian convention. The quality truly sucked. I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen bootleg copies around."

Hmm. So this is a semi-official word from an LFL employee. Not very conclusive.

Regarding the Sansweet quote, if this IS confirmation that it aired (at least once), and that it was shown publicly (at least once), maybe Darth Neo can share it? (or course that's entirely up to him).....

I'm from the UK, and I'm sure I've seen it - from the description of the bts footage of the fall of the first AT-AT, I'm sure I've seen it. Years ago while in college, I gave a copy of the SPFX doc (which I hadn't watched in ages) to a mate who was studying animatiion - specifically so he could see that piece of footage, and he reported back that the tape I gave him didn't have it. I watched it again to make sure, as I knew for certain that I had seen it in a 'making of' for Empire, and he was right - it wasn't there.

I've been asking people for years if they remember it, and some of them remember it, but none of them can find it in their collections.

Sounds all too familliar...

I know it aired, cause I saw it. However, not many of us did.

If the Mr. Sansweet quote is true, then I would be more than happy to provide Lucasfilm with a good quality copy of the program in exchange for a personalised autograph from the flannelled one himself

In the meantime how about that upload you promised? Damn, you stipluated that you wanted us to unearth a copy first. Carry on!

Hey Darth Neo, do you think that enough proof exists now for you to release this? Not trying to push you or anything, just wondering what your stance was now? Looking forward to the website...

Hi Guyz,

looking with great interest at the developments on this tread. I have thought about it for 2 days now and can promise you this: if you guys find another copy of this which proves it was released/shown in some form, and if my copy's quality is better, I will create a fan copy of my tape.
The reason for this is: I made this promise in the understanding that it was a special that was never released in any form. If that proves to be untrue or when a lower quality version of this program is already out there I see no reason to hold out on this one. I will just not be the guy that brings this out there and break my initial promise.

I am, however, hyped to speed up things with my website and will work on it non stop this weekend. I will release the website sooner than intended and leave a lot of the other stuff that I was planning out. This will all be added at a later time as updates. How's that.....

I have selected a few clips from the program for the website that will be shown in the flv format that I think are special. Here's one of them.

special clip 2: the making of the empire strikes back

See you guyz later,

Darth Neo

Gary Kurtz has a movie coming out ("5-25-77") that he'll probably be doing a lot of internet type publicity for. Maybe we can get one of these websites to ask him.

it's kinda funny gary has a better copy than the LFL archives. what a shame.

then again they made no attempt whatsoever to put out the original docs of the making of the trilogy officially so fans have to rely on bootlegs made from japanese laserdiscs for best qaulity copies.

sadly this rare doc by muchael parbot has never been commericially released on vhs or even on japanese laserdisc.

i was surprised they were even able to get mr. kurtz on the empire of dreams doc as LUCAS hates gary for no apparent reason. something to do with empire going over budget?

I was outraged that Gary and Kersh had no involvement on return of the jedi.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

Kersh was asked to direct Return of the Jedi but refused for some reason. Then David Lynch was considered but refused (he later did Dune).

Darth Neo, great to see you're sticking around. Hope the website's coming along nicely.

Did you give any thought to sending Michel Parbot a copy?

Hi guyz,

I have been working all weekend on the website. The framework (Flash) is ready, the menu system (Flash) has been made and I'm photoshopping the backgrounds. And tonight I will be adding the first content. Expect some special surprises. A lot of content will be added later but the first release will include clips from the Empire Strikes Back special.

The progress now is somewhat slower because I have to work, but I expect the launch of the website this weekend.

As for copies of the program: I'm concentrating on the website for now, so I haven't thought about it..........

Keeping you posted.

Greetz,

Darth Neo

March 5, 1979 - Shooting begins on The Empire Strikes Back, with Lucas as executive producer and Irvin Kershner as director.
1986 - Howard the Duck released
1988 - Domark release home computer versions of Atari's Coin-op game.
1989 -
1990 - Star Wars VHS re-release no.2
2000 - Art of Star Wars Exhibition at the Barbican, London.
2001 - 25 Years of Star Wars Novelizations
2004 - Original Trilogy released on DVD (well..actually the 2nd edition of the SE's)

Hmm, the late 1980's were really quiet years for Star Wars.

How can you miss out: 1973 - Lucas begins writing star wars

1975 - Lucas forms ILM
1976 - Shooting begins on Star Wars

1983? 84? - Lucas announces no more star wars movies. It occured around the time fans usually expected to hear about the next star wars movie. I remember seeing a press conference on the news (and on kiddies 'Newsround') with a visibly weary Lucas, sounding like he was just burnt out by it all. I've never seen this footage since, so if you can dig this up, that'd make a great historical rarity to add to your site.

2002 - Lucas receives Honourary BAFTA
2005 - Lucas receives AFI Life Achievement Award

you might also want to check this banner from Toyfare 2007 which lists

2008 - Clone Wars 3D animation
2009 - Live Action TV Series

Thanks for your quick replies guyz. The timeline for my site runs from 1976 to 2010 (1976 being the pre-star wars segment). The awards suggestion is great. I was thinking about concerts John Williams gave at some point. Perhaps someone knows more about that? I have a picture of a concert of Johnny with some ewoks on stage????

I can upoload the picture tonight.

Thanks for your help.
