Well I can say with some conviction you are the most interesting new member on this forum for some time (to me anyway).

Thanks VERY much for uploading that clip. It's clearly evident that it would have been a great resource to me when I was making 'Building Empire'. To be honest I am blown away to find out that there is another 'making of' doco packed with great stuff.

I hope that in time you will consider sharing this in it's entirety. This forum is full of people with a genuine love of the original trilogy. "The Making of The Empire Strikes" back would make a great addition to the list of preservations.

Just watched the clip. There is no doubt in my mind this is what I had on tape. I can't believe this is the first time this has surfaced. Surely there must be more copies out there. Am I the only one here who remembers this?

I can't wait to watch this clip. I was chatting with my (OT.com lurker) friend Brad last night and we came to the conclusion that no matter what Fox or LFL does, 2007 is going to be a great year for Star Wars projects.

Having said that, we ought to be careful we don't scare Darth Neo off with our enthusiam. We don't him taking his toys and disappearing.

I'm starting to feel like I need to apologize to everybody I have ragged on for having memories of weird clips of items they swore they remember. Between this Making of Empire Strikes Back doc and the recent findings of the early 70mm prints of Empire, I'm starting to doubt my views on other 'urban legends' like the grappling hook.

On another note, how cool would it be if LFL actually gave us an official release of this doc this year?

I'm not sure. Until now, I would of said that anything that was aired would have been pretty much documented by now. But I can see how it might of gotten an airing or two on some local stations or something similar to this, or maybe even a basically unadvertised airing on PBS late at night or something similar. It sounds like it was aired, just not very widely.

People probably saw it and forgot all about it, rolling it up in their memories as the other making of that is more widely available.

If it showed in 1980 and never again probably very few people taped it, or taped over it later - VCRs weren't in absolutely every home in 1980...

I've been in a similar circumstance. I know how you guys are feeling, but look at it this way...had he not brought it up in the first place you'd never even have seen the clip he just posted.

Who's to say you won't see it? You just won't see it from him at least until he gets permission or he changes his mind.

Hopefully one day we'll get to see this thing. I was old enough to remember a BTS piece like this seeing how I'm 37 now, but I never saw that one. Anyhow, I appreciate his post to let us know about this doc.

Well if that guy is right about taping it off PBS, it wasn't SPFX. That was a network special, probably CBS. Jedi had 2 different specials (From Star Wars to Jedi on PBS and Classic Creatures on the network) so maybe Empire did too?

I think we have to respect Darth Neo's wishes. I kind of agree with DFNYC that it's like dangling a carrot, but at least we all know it's out there and somebody MAY find a copy. I have a lot of material, including some great behind the scenes Polaroids from the original trilogy, but the were given to me on the understanding that thet were not for distribution. Let's divert our energy into finding a copy and if Darth Neo decides to change his mind. we all benefit.

I don't blame him. He would have been swamped with PM's in no time. I say give him some space while we look for another copy around. Quick and easy is the path to the dark side.
