That also seems really spotty to me for a number of reasons. I keep myself informed on DVD releases in many countries and I've never seen this announced. In addition, that supposedly came out almost two weeks ago, yet it has next to no information on the DVD itself. Either way, though, Boba is right, it probably doesn't have everything that the laserdisc does, few DVD "Special Editions" of laserdiscs ever do.

the release date is november the 7th and not july the 11th.

So it may really happen. After the DVD release of Jaws with the complete 2hours Making of, and the upcoming rerelease of Psycho on 2 discs, it may be the time for The Frighteners to have its own special Edition DVD on 2 discs.

Since the movie is owned by Universal, which also produced Peter Jackson's King Kong, it seems logic to me they promote the other Peter Jackson they own in their library in conjonction with the new movie.

I think they will include the 4h30 making of Documentary. It's like for Jaws. They included a shorter 55 min Making of the first time when Universal doesn't make 2 discs dvd release.

And now, they change their policy and we have beautiful 2 disc set of Jaws with the complete 2 hours Documentary, port from the Laserdisc.

but for The Frighteners, maybe it will be a 3 disc set.

Well, the site is rather vague on the SE and there have been many times when news of a DVD release pops up on one of these foreign sites but never comes out. The site says it's yet to be confirmed and there hasn't been any news of an SE from any other site. And even if it is two discs, Universal seems to be a studio that likes to skimp out on 2-disc sets. They'll load the first disc with extras so the second disc can be a DVD-5 with only an hour or two of content. This release pattern from Universal would suggest they're more than likely to edit the documentary into smaller pieces than give us the full four and a half hour documentary that would be hard to fit on a DVD-9 anyway. I'd wait for an official announcement before stopping work on this.

I believe the LDs may have arrived. Got a cryptic (well, less-than-enlightening) e-mail saying a package has arrived for me. Could be one of several things, but this timeline fits best. I'll report back when I've got it...

It's here; I picked it up last night. Had to pay an additional $21.80 in handling / Customs charges. Bastards.

Gonna get my player fired up either tonight or Friday night (busy tomorrow). I'll also work on some scans soon, too.

At least we will have the extras from the laserdisc. So that is totaly kick ass in my book. So I guess I'm happy both ways. Yeah me!!

I'll end up with a studio quality cut of the film and a great transfer of the bonus stuff.

How have we wasted time and money? What time have you put into getting this set? And even if you've put money towards the purchase of this set then you'll still not lose out. If I remember rightly, Rev. Beastly said the set would be resold on Ebay so any monies spent on the purchase would be made back possibly with extra. Any persons who contributed would be reimbursed.

It's not a waste because up until now no one knew what was happening with the official set. We could have all sat back and watched sets sold on Ebay for silly money and waited in the hope that someone got off their ass and did what a few people here have done.

I for one would still like to see a full rip of the Laserdisc Collection if anyone still wants to do this.

I think we should still do both the movie and the extras. Who knows perhaps the movie that comes out won't have a commentary on it or something. I for one would still like both versions.
