For any fans of sports films, especially those written or directed by Ron Shelton (Bull Durham), this is one of those lost films of the '80s that rarely gets its due alongside other great sports comedies.  This film features Kurt Russell and Robin Williams in their prime (released same year as Big Trouble in Little China).

Williams plays a small town schlub who dropped the ball at the big game years ago and hopes for redemption for himself and his lethargic town by replaying that legendary game once again.  Kurt Russell plays Reno Hightower, a once promising quarterback and local hero who saw his dreams crushed during that fateful game which ended in defeat and injury.  Williams schemes to lure Russell and the whole town back for one last shot at victory against their juggernaut crosstown rivals.

It’s always been one of my favorite little movies that could, alongside another little sports gem that HBO produced in 1987 called Long Gone.  These are two of my favorites that a lot of people have actually never seen.

A great 720p HDTV broadcast of The Best of Times was recently released on TPB and it’s well worth a look.

No BD exists or likely ever will and the DVD is letterboxed.

This is a very rare presentation of the film and I’ve never seen it look so stunningly beautiful.  Many thanks for the effort.
